Location of site• The pilot site is located in
Tenasserim range in western Thailand between WEFCOM and Kaeng Krachan FC; to the west both complexes border forested areas in Myanmar
• Length of the corridor is over 70km; phase 1 (2006-2009), activities are concentrated in 4 clusters with 5 villages each

Wildlife and Its Habitat Assessment in the Corridor Zone
Strengths and opportunities• Thailand Cabinet has acknowledged
Tenasserim Corridor and has directed cooperation among relevant gov.agencies
• MoU signed among enforcement authorities (MoI, MoE, RTA, RTAF, RTN, RTP, RFD)
• Strong support / public participationin BCI activities, including local provincial and national government & school children, army etc.
• Village Committees set up• Socioeconomic information & HRD• Forest restoration activities
commenced with communities participation & 200 ha completed
• Village Revolving Fund established• Potential site for REDD with MVR

Opportunities
(1) Pro-poor participatory benefit sharing/benefit streams: Village Revolving Funds
(2) Zoning of Corridor Areas:• Zone 1: Agroforestry (sustainable use zone)
• Zone 2: Livelihood plantation (buffer zone)
• Zone 3: Carbon Sequestration (rest. zone + nat. regen.)
• Zone 4: Deforestation Avoidance incentives
(3) Forest restoration and afforestation(4) Capacity building for Climate change awareness
and disaster preparedness(5) Project employment and economic development
(1) By 2015, Livelihood improvements for about 7,000 households in the corridor area
(2) Zoning: Community Forestry, Biomass production, carbon sequestration zones;
(3 Restoration with native species of at least 5,000 ha in Zone 2
(4) Identifying vulnerable and high risk areas, raising awareness about climate change impacts, adaptation measures requiring infrastructure modifications and investments;
(5) By 2017, the project will be producing biomass material from the +5,000 ha Zone 1 (Fuelwood, agro-forestry zone) creating a supply chain for biomass renewable energy facility development. It will create 500+ jobs in the Tenasserim.
