(Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) Implemented technologies to drive business growth and increase the comfort of its commuters.

Currently it has Increased its fleet from 2,010 to 5,020 this year Running 4,800 schedules per day, Increased depot's from 13 to 31 in the city.

Growth target – To increase the buses to 10,000 by 2011 and To meet the daily demands of 3.8 million commuters. Introduction of 1,000 more Volvo buses in the

next one year.

•Growing demand for efficient services•Increasing fuel prices•Poor infrastructure•Bottlenecks in the administrative system•Aiming at increasing its commuter based to 5 million per day•BMTC’s priority to have 10,000 buses in 5 years

Technical feasibility- Capability of handling time critical data

transmission (tracking the bus wherever it is at real time)

Economic feasibility- Invested Rs 80 lakhs on GPS technology which

saves them around 1crore on fuel & bus fleet management

Operational feasibility- Provides accuracy to a greater extent as it is

controlled through satellites thus the data is very reliable to make traffic diversion decision

Positive response of the conductors as the system dissected the traffic jam easily.

813 E-ticketing-Helps in tracking the total ticket sale in a day which was done manually.

Development of new IT department to handle this system and the drivers were motivated to be a part of this system along with driving.

e-GPS online vehicle tracking and monitoring, e-recruitment computerized smoke emission

tests, issue of student smart cards and Bangalore ID

cards etc It was developed by Arya Omnitalk and

Mobiapps & in part by Amber system. For depot activities Abacus & Kalya

developed software. This task has been outsource to Micro Fx.

Designed on innovative Adobe Flex platform enable user to:

Improved map zoom Smarter vehicle location/identification Updated vehicle information and place

clustering Turn-by-turn directions and route analysis

tools Self-paced online training videos

Initial testing done on 5000 buses, generated vast profit & thus was passed by BMTC to implement on all the 8000 busses.

The events of manual error during

ticketing service was reduced to minimal levels & thus reduced pilferage & harassment by the conductors.

Successful implementation of system throughout BMTC (general buses & Volvos) & was a major hit in organization as well as commuters.

People were happy with the new ticketing system as it was a transparent system.

The maintenances was carried out by Arya Omnitalk and Mobiapps.

The firm which developed it goes through a regular schedule of updating the new routes and the buses into the main system.

The new ticket rates are updated into the ticketing system.
