Dear Friends and Family,We are honored to present our 2015/16 Annual Report to our community. We are grateful to our Board of Directors, our staff, our donors, our community partners and our volunteers who support our life-changing mission. Only together can we break the cycle of homelessness.

It has been another year of growth for The Lord’s Place as we continue to expand and improve our programs and services. Understanding that the first step toward ending homelessness is housing, we dedicated this year to expanding our inventory of housing options for the single men, women and families whom we serve. Today our budget is more than $7 million, supporting the multiple programs and campuses throughout Palm Beach County.

In the spring, we purchased a six-unit house in West Palm Beach, now named Halle Place, in honor of our generous benefactors, Diane and Bruce Halle. Halle Place is a transitional housing program for 14 formerly incarcerated women. This innovative program is the first of its kind in our community, and was created to assist women in rebuilding their lives, as they come out of prison or jail. We are honored to serve these ladies as they regain their skills to become productive members of our society.

After three years of providing housing and services for formerly homeless women at Burckle Place in Lake Worth, the Burckle Place Experience continued as we broke ground in the spring for our newest graduate housing facility - Burckle Place West. This new facility will provide graduate housing for 11 women ready to move from a supportive environment to more independent, affordable housing units. The Burckle and Halle programs re-emphasize our commitment to address unmet needs in our community - especially for single women without children, for whom there was previously so little support available in our community.

Knowing that there is an intersection between homelessness and incarceration, we committed this past year to focus on

Reentry services. It can be a very difficult transition for individuals returning home from incarceration. Our comprehensive services- from housing to job training- rebuilds lives and offers a second chance for a brighter future. In addition, we continue to play a major role in our community in the delivery of services as well as advocating for systemic change in the criminal justice arena. We honor our staff who work so tirelessly to provide the programs and services our clients need. For the third year running, we were recognized as one of the “Best Places to Work” in the State of Florida by Florida Trend Magazine, as well as receiving a national award called “When Work Works” - recognizing our commitment to a flexible and effective workplace.

As we reflect on the past year, we are reminded that our work is dedicated to those we serve. Our clients enrich our lives and teach us about resilience and hope. We are honored to be part of their journey toward self-sufficiency. Sincerely,

Pamela McIver2015-16 Board Chair

Our programs

About usThe Lord’s Place works to break the cycle of homelessness by providing care that empowers our clients to become self-sufficient.

Although our organization began as a soup kitchen, we found that food was only one of many needs our clients had. Research told us that we could only end a person’s homelessness by addressing a multitude of barriers that they were facing--whether it be trauma, substance abuse, mental illness or lack of education. With this realization, we began a radical transformation of ourselves and how we serve those in need.

Today, we operate more than two dozen programs and employ a professional Research & Evaluation team to ensure we are providing the most effective services to those who most need them. Recent program additions include a Reentry division, helping those exiting prison to integrate back to society, and an expanded Women’s Services program. With your support, we can one day make homelessness a chapter in the history books.

Supportive HousingWe provide housing to men, women and children, with an emphasis on the chronically homeless. Our housing clients receive wraparound services including case management, mental and physical health treatment, and employment services.

Employment ServicesWe offer diverse programming (apprenticeships, job training, life skills classes and job coaching services) to assist clients in developing vocational and educational goals that lead to employment and self-sufficiency.

Social EnterprisesOur social enterprise businesses (Joshua Catering Company and Joshua Thrift Store) create jobs for individuals with significant barriers to employment. The Lord’s Place creates a supportive environment to help our clients find meaningful employment and achieve independence.

ReentryAfter release from prison or jail, an increasing number of men and women become homeless because of limited services and barriers to employment. The Lord’s Place is dedicated to helping formerly incarcerated people rebuild their lives and break these barriers.

S.O.A.R.Our S.O.A.R. program (SSI/SSCI, Outreach, Access and Recovery Initiative) engages sheltered and unsheltered men and women, providing quick access to life-saving health benefits, including disability income and food stamps.
