Within the first half of the project, model contaminants were absorbed in different types of microplascs at different concentraons. From there, contaminated microplascs were fed to specific marine species to measure the uptake, eliminaon and accumulaon rates. The project is studying the biological effects of marine pollutants at molecular, cellular, physiological and organismic levels, to allow for the detecon of the effects of microplascs across the main phyla of marine organisms, covering most trophic levels. 2017 saw much of the field validaon studies carried out across the Mediterranean and Adriac, as well as having the opportunity to sample in Bermudan waters and in the water around Guadeloupe with the Race for Water. EPHEMARE acvies were well documented through the projects social media outlets and website, in order to engage diverse audiences. Members of the project consorum took part in a range of themac outreach events to engage with the public, and acvies such as the IMPACT 2017, awareness raising and the publicaon of factsheets also serve to disseminate ideas to a wider audience. Issue 2 December 2017 From all the team at EPHEMARE, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! The EPHEMARE Stakeholder Workshop will take place in Antwerp, February 21st, 2018. The workshop will encourage knowledge exchange between Sciensts, Regulators, Policy/ Decision makers, and Industry representaves to work together on soluons to the adverse impacts of marine microplascs. More informaon will follow in the new year, see our website for the latest updates.

Progress and Results to Date
The 2nd Annual EPHEMARE project meeting was held in February, hosted by CNR – ISMAR
in Genoa, Italy. The two-day meeting was in order to update consortium partners on
activities to date and scheduled activities for 2017. The next EPHEMARE project meeting
will take place in Antwerp on February 19th and 20th 2018.
Within the first half of the project, model contaminants were
absorbed in different types of microplastics at different
concentrations. From there, contaminated microplastics were
fed to specific marine species to measure the uptake,
elimination and accumulation rates. The project is studying the
biological effects of marine pollutants at molecular, cellular,
physiological and organismic levels, to allow for the detection of
the effects of microplastics across the main phyla of marine
organisms, covering most trophic levels.
2017 saw much of the field validation studies carried out across
the Mediterranean and Adriatic, as well as having the
opportunity to sample in Bermudan waters and in the water
around Guadeloupe with the Race for Water.
EPHEMARE activities were well documented through the
projects social media outlets and website, in order to engage
diverse audiences. Members of the project consortium took part
in a range of thematic outreach events to engage with the
public, and activities such as the IMPACT 2017, awareness raising
and the publication of factsheets also serve to disseminate ideas
