Immunization Interfaces between provider Electronic Health Records (EHR) and ShowMeVax (SMV)
An Immunization Information System (IIS) is a database that records all vaccine doses administered by participating providers to patients. An IIS is used by private providers, pharmacists, hospitals, and schools to provide a consolidated record of a person’s vaccine history and recommendations for future doses.
The IIS is a vital part of disease surveillance, outbreak management, and vaccine program continuous quality improvement.
The Bureau of Immunizations is replacing the ShowMeVax IIS for compliance with all national requirements, to incorporate up-to-date vaccine schedules, and to be available to all Missouri immunization providers.
Project Scope
Why Replace ShowMeVax?
Project VisionThe new ShowMeVax will be a dynamic, interoperable, and complete IIS that ensures Missourians are protected from vaccine-preventable diseases at both the individual and population levels.
Timetable
Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services
ShowMeVax does not meet national IIS functional requirements, does not stay up to date with changing vaccine schedules, and does not fully integrate with provider’s EHR systems.
A third party evaluator found 220 deficiencies for compliance with national IIS requirements. These must be met for DHSS to continue to receive CDC funding.
Providers cannot track their vaccine orders and complete accountability information in ShowMeVax. Using a manual accounting process increases the risk for error and makes tracking doses difficult.
ShowMeVax only works in Internet Explorer, for which Microsoft ended support in January 2016. All other browsers cannot display the application.
