Analyze the Learner• General Characteristics: There are 24 students enrolled in Ms. Wolfe’s

5th grade class. Out of the 24 students, there are 13 girls and 11 boys. In this class there are a select few of minorities, which are Hindus, Asians and African Americans. Out of the 24 students in the class, 9 of these children fit into these minorities. There are 2 Hindus, 2 Asians, and 5 African Americans.

• Specific Entry Competencies: This class will not have many if any prior knowledge on Immigration in the Americas. The students will most likely know that certain ethnicities from other countries came to America. Many students will get this information from previous classes, books or the media. I believe the students will be very eager to learn about Immigration in the Americas, with the different activities I have planned for this unit.

• Learning Styles: Auditory, Visual and Kinesthetic

Day by Day Breakdown1. I will introduce the topic, using the poster and videos.

3. The class will be divided into groups, they will complete a WebQuest.

4. The students will present their personal immigration story

5. Immigration Day- students will have to bring a paper bag with two objects that they would want to bring from their homeland, dress like the immigrates did, take a citizenship test and have to go through similar routines as the immigrants did. They will make a podcast with their ”family” of their journey to America.
