!

Dear Parishioners,!

First of all, I am very happy that as of June 1, 2018, Cardinal Seán O’Malley has entrusted to me the responsibility for the pastoral care of the people at Immaculate Conception Parish. Even if my qualifications do not overly excite me about this position, the prospect of working with you, as well as the priests already assigned to our parish, truly excites me and renews my eagerness to serve as your Administrator. !

No sooner than I arrived at Immaculate Conception, I was thrilled to hear about some of the current programs, ministries and aspirations of the community, especially as regards our school. I would like you to know that I fully share your concern for the importance of the transmission of faith to children as well as the importance of a healthy, vibrant, and faithfilled school. In this context, I was informed of a tentative initiative of a new day care center (St. Elizabeth’s Center) that would respond to the need to transmit faith to the children even before they would enroll in the school. !

Therefore, while in principle these are all issues that I fully support, since I myself have just arrived in the parish, but also a significant number of the people that worked in the administration of both the School and the Parish have just left (or are leaving soon), I have decided that I need more time in the parish before I can decide on the matter of the day care center. !

It is my intention, in the meantime, to listen to anyone who is interested or concerned about the present and the future of our school. Together I believe that we can devise a strategy for Immaculate Conception School that, not only attracts new children but also inspires them to remain connected to the School and to the Parish. I hope to work with our teachers and staff articulating a solid, vibrant and faithfilled curriculum that will instill and inspire in the children pride in the riches our faith and inspire them to invest, down the road, both personally and professionally, in our Parish and School, in gratitude for the benefits of the education that they have received. !

Together with you, we priests assigned to Immaculate Conception Parish plan to launch an organic pastoral plan that prioritizes evangelization as the focus of our ministry. Like a body that breathes better with two lungs, we will work to cherish and to nourish the faith of those who currently worship with us weekly, daily, from time to time, and we will also reach out to many other people, relatives, friends, former parishioners, etc., who, for whatever reason, have drifted away from the practice of the faith or never had any contact with Christ.!

With renewed gratitude to God for this assignment as your Administrator and looking forward to work with you as collaborators in the vineyard of the Lord, I promise to pray daily for you and for your needs. In your kindness, please remember me also in your prayers.!

Sincerely in Christ,!

Fr. Steven!

! Society of St. James!Mission Appeal !! This weekend we welcome Fr.!David Costello, Director/Superior General of the Society of !St. James!as the mission appeal speaker.!The Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle was founded in 1958 by Richard Cardinal Cushing to minister to the needs of the people in South !America. The Cardinal, in response to a request made by Pius XII, marshaled a force of diocesan priests to go there and establish the missions in Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. For almost 60 years the struggle has gone on and has become an international effort of diocesan priests from England, Ire-land, Scotland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the Philippines as well the United States. !! We are an international missionary society whose members are diocesan priests who devote at least five years of their priesthood to the service of “the poorest of the poor” in South America. !Currently we have a group of diocesan priests serving in South America dealing with the spiritual and material needs of the poor in urban shanti towns and rural villages of Ecuador and Peru. !! In the Latin American Church we find a sense of vitality and growth of a young church in the making. !! Thanking you for your prayers and support. !

! Padre Steven!!
