Ten years ago there
were two women, Nettie
Davis and Nan Williams,
getting together once a
week in a bedroom
converted into a sewing
room at Nan’s house.
Their mission was sewing
blankets, gowns, hats
and “tote bags” for Ak-
ron Pregnancy Services.
One day Trudy Smith
came along, out of curi-
osity, to see what in the
world they were doing
and she was ‘sucked in’
- and has been ever
since. Not only was sew-
ing going on for APS but
for a not so little orphan-
age in Haiti. Nan was
sewing sundresses,
sheets and school uni-
forms (to name a few
things) and Nettie and
Trudy were busy with
APS. Nettie gradually
because involved with
orphanage projects.
Charlie (Nan’s husband)
was busy keeping the
sewing machines and
sergers running. One
day the question was
posed to Trudy is she
would mind helping fin-
ish up a sewing project
for the orphanage.
Now, all four because
busy, busy helping fill the
many barrels John Haw-
thorn took to Haiti every
trip. After 9/11 it be-
came increasingly diffi-
cult to get barrels into
Haiti. What could three
women do to raise
money to help feed chil-
dren in dire need? Thus
an idea was born.
Those “tote bags” for
APS were very much ad-
mired— why could they
not make bigger and
better bags and send
the money to Haiti.
What an idea, but how
and where?? God had
His plans, “As for God His
way is Perfect. He is a
Shield to all who trust in
Him.” And so it was that
fabric began pouring
in—fabrics of all kinds.
The ‘bag’ factory began
humming. The Lord also
provided a place to sell
the bags at Sols in Berlin,
Ohio. The ‘vision’ was
there for all four.
(Couldn’t do it without
Charlie keeping the ma-
chines working.) These
ladies met every week
with lots of ‘homework’
besides.
Fast forward eight years
and over $50,000 later.
That’s a LOT of bags.
Due to over burdening
of machines that were
self-destructing slowly
and physical chal-
lenges, Nan reluctantly
retired and the sewing
room was closed. But
the Lord still had plans.
A new mission was
born—Imagine Missions
and a new director, our
wonderful Miss Melissa.
WHAT TO DO? With the
cost of gas going up
and up, getting to Sols
along with the overhead
made it difficult, and

now there were only
two. Could two keep
up?
Fabric donations still
kept coming in. Garage
sailing brought pins and
buttons, laces and rib-
bons. The Lord opened
other doors to sell the
bags. The vision was still
there. God is still there—
His perfect way and His
shield. Now two ladies,
single handedly are
making bags and God
continues to be faithful,
daily and even hourly.
Two ladies ‘sewing for
Him’.

Namely, what has been
happening at the LOCC
Children’s Home? It has
been a very busy sum-
mer. We have had many

May brought a group
from the Galilee church
in Jefferson, Georgia.
They helped one of our
staff members with con-
struction at her house.
She was living in a home
with no roof, doors or
floor. It was rainy season
so the conditions for her
and her daughter and
grandchildren were very
bad. They also ran a
clinic at the Children’s
home and brought many
shoes and clothes to
share with the children.
The next week we had a
couple, Mark and Tanya

God is doing wonderful things in the lives of these
children, as well as the lives of those of us fortunate
enough to help them come to know the love of
God by providing clean water, food, an education,
and teaching them about Jesus.
If you would like to send a contribution, sponsor a
child, or help in any way, there are several ways in
