There are currently four families of OSRAM SYLVANIA Products Inc. High 'Pressure Sodium lamps: LumaluxPlus™ Lumalux,® Lumalux® Standby andUnalux® They are one of the most efficient HID sources available. These lampsare used for general lighting applications where high efficiency and long life aredesired and color rendering is not critical. Typical applications include street-lighting, industrial hi-bay, parking lot lighting, and building floodlighting.
LUMALUX PLUS™/ECO™These environmentally friendlier lamps are designed with lead-free weldedmogul bases and they contain up to 90% less mercury than standard HPSlamps. They will NOT CYCLE at end of life. All lamps operate on existing HPSballasts for corresponding wattages. LUMALUX PLUS™ lamps pass the existingFederal TCLP limit (4/98).27
LUMALUX®Available in a broad range of mogul base general lighting lamps from 50-1000watts for universal operation. Lamps from 35 to 150 watts are also available inmedium base. Most lamps are available in clear and coated bulbs.
LUMALUX® STANDBYThese lamps are designed with two arc tubes to provide instant restrike capability in the event of a momentary power interruptionwithout total loss of light.UNALUX®These retrofit lamps are designed to operate on all mercury reactor ballasts when increased light and reduced energy is desired.
I WA™'"° I LUMALUX PLUS™, LUMALUX® AND LUMALUX® STANDBY LAMPS I »«""• I1. These lamps must be operated with a fixture and ballast which has an ANSI designation identical to the ANSI designation on the lamp etch on the outer glass bulb, otherwise the lamp may shatter resulting in the discharge of hot glass particles. SHOULD THIS OCCUR, THERE IS A RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTYDAMAGE, BURNS AND FIRE FROM HOT PARTICLES OR SHATTERED GLASS.2. Do not remove or insert lamps when power is on. If outer glass bulb is broken, shut off power immediately and remove lamp after it has cooled.3. Do not expose operating lamp to moisture. • I4. Replace the lamp if outer glass bulb has been scratched, cracked or damaged in any way.5. Electrically insulate any metal support in contact with the outer glass bulb to avoid glass decomposition.Operating and Installation Instructions1. To avoid burn injury, allow lamp to cool before removing from the fixture.2. To ensure electrical contact, screw lamp firmly but not forcibly into the socket. Excessive force may cauSe the outer glass bulb to break.3. Lamps may be operated in any position.4. For maximum system performance, replace lamp at or before end of published rated life.5. Lumalux19 lamps require a specially designed base socket electrically rated to withstand 4000 volt pulses except LU750 and LU1000 which require sockets to with-stand 5000 volt pulses. - _____ _____
I **"»""= | UNALUX® LAMPS I WAHN"IG IUnalux lamps will operate satisfactorily on conventional Mercury ballast circuits meeting current ANSI specifications. Ballast must be high leakage reactance lag typeauto-transformer; or a 240 or 277 volt reactor for the 150W, 215W, 360W lamps and a 480 volt reactor for the 880W lamp. Lamps should not be used in luminarieswhich cause excessive increase in arc tube operating voltage. Do not use these lamps with constant wattage or constant wattage auto-transformer ballasts, conventional high pressure sodium ballasts or equipment not meeting conditions shown in the following table.
I """""M \ SOX® LAMPS I W*""INS I1. These lamps must be operated with a fixture and ballast which has an ANSI designation identical to the ANSI designation listed on
page 84 for the corresponding wattages.
• 2. Single based SOX lamps 35W to 180W should be supported traction-relief at the end opposite to the base.
3. SOX lamps contain a small quantity of sodium. In case of lamp breakage, the sodium may develop heat when in contact with moisture. Therefore, the lamp must bestored and shipped enclosed in its original package.
4. The following procedure should be applied when disposing of burned out lamps in order to avoid damage:
A. Place lamp in a dry, high container and break it into small pieces in the open air and in a dry atmosphere. B. Fill the container with water by means of a rubber hose, the operator standing at a safe distance. C. After a few minutes, the sodium will be rendered harmless due to the effect of the water. D. Care should be taken that novarnished parts (for instance an automobile) are in the neighborhood which might be attacked by the sodium hydrate or splashes of sodium hydrate, respectively.
