We, the BA (Hons) Illustration graduates of Hull School of Art & Design, 2013, present the Lucky 13 Collective. We are a diverse group of Illustrators and Creatives making our own luck in the world of visual communication.

With a range of specialisms, from print to pencil crayon, we are sure to have an illustration to tickle your fancy. With a mix of computer generated and hand drawn images, our contemporary Illustration provides a visually interesting reply to a number of aims and briefs. From satirical and quirky to realistic and thought provoking, the vast range of ideas presented to you in this catalogue also represents the colourful characters who have made them.

We wouldn’t just expect you to take our word for it; feast your eyes on the creative explosion that is the Lucky 13 Collective.

Illustration informs, illuminates, explains, decorates, stimulates, questions and educates.

Illustration is a creative discipline which involves the exploration and exploitation of visual metaphors and techniques to realise new forms of pictorial representation to communicate and inform. The Illustration programme at Hull School of Art & Design is aimed at individuals who have the motivation and desire to realise their own creative potential. The students explore a wide variety of image making media, its substrates and concepts in pursuit of their own individual ‘voice’ as a unique visual signature. This exploration includes printmaking, digital media, installation, textiles, 3D media and animation as well as the autographic skills of drawing and painting.Throughout these pages are examples of excellence and creative diversity with an underlying dedication to the pursuit of communicative innovation. The illustration team and I are proud to introduce these fresh new ‘voices’ in the world of Illustration.Well done everyone, and we look forward to seeing your work in the future!
