Alvise Zorzi It is not easy to condense the art of Federica Marangoni into a short “note” , for it stands out for the quality and va- riety of the materials she uses, no less than for the imagi- nation with which she moulds those materials so harshly into a more meaningful illustration of abstract concepts, not to mention piercingly concrete, does not lend it self to definitions, not even to historical records, to the call to the Nouveau Rèalisme from which she began. Her works ex- press, first and foremost, a permanent condition of absolute freedom, ready to embrace concepts and causes with a generosity that is characteristic of her artistic and human personality. If we were searching for a summary of it, we could paraphrase the verses within which Verlaine set out the message of his poetry: de la musique avant toute cho- se... la lumière avant toute chose”, light, first and foremost, light, always light, more light. It is the search for an inner light which refracts in the celebration of these compositions which ennoble the things with which they test themselves and which make them rise to become symbols of freedom and clarity. Federica and her creations are at home in Italy, and in many other places where they exist and delight. Alvise Zorzi 154 Illuminazioni, 54° Biennale di Venezia, Venezia
