I have maintained a sailing resume, which has been very handy in demonstrating my qualifications when chartering bareboat. I have sailed with friends, especially Norm Meyn, family, crewed and sailed on small ships with the Archaeol-ogy Institute of America in the Eastern and Western Mediterranean. My favorite has been the Sea Cloud, 365 ft. square rigger built for E.F. Hutton and Marjorie Merriweather Post in the Caribbean. My PowerPoint talk will cover a wide range of experiences with color commentary by Norm Meyn. The photo is of most of the Campbell family on the J & E Riggin out of Rockland, Maine.
The social hour starts at 2:00 PM in the Commodore Room at the IVY Club, followed by the program at 3:00 PM. Dues this season are $10/person which includes beer, wine, or soda. You can bring snacks or appetizers to share if you like.

Beyond the BVI: A Lifetime of SailingAllen C. Campbell, M.D.
Although we joined the IVY Club in 1973 upon moving to Peoria, I have been successful in maintaining a very low profile. I owned and sailed a Star, an O’Day 22 and a Capri 22, racing some and crewing some, however, most of my sailing experience has been at various locations around the world.
Soup Cook OffSunday, January 17, 12noonIf you’re ready for a little friendly competition, bring your favorite soup for the annual cook-off.But if you’d rather sample the soups rather than make one, you can bring an appetizer, dessertor salad to share. January is National Soup Month, so plan to come to the Club and Celebrate!

Notes from the Bridge December has been a very good month for the club. There have been a lot of parties - great events for everyone, every age. Wednesday and Friday days have had good food and drinks to create a very festive time. The holiday deco-rations are beautiful throughout the entire Club. The entertainment committee did an excellent job mak-ing sure each and every party was fun for all the members celebrating with their family and friends.
What’s coming in January and February? The Club will be offering Wednesday and Friday buffets. Be sure to read the IVY Leaf and the “Weekly Happening” emails for details.
We are also planning to make some changes to the dining menu, with many items rotating from week to week.
It’s your Club, so come down and enjoy it. Winter gives us an entirely different view of the river with ice, snow, an occasional eagle and of course Aflac, Flo and whatever the name of the male mallard is. Join us for dinner and drinks - the more members that participate, the better the club does. Happy New Year!
