What do we mean by this statement? Simply, not all industrial cleaners have kept pace with the increasing demands forpurity in high technology industries. As electronic systems have become smaller and more complex, chemical purity hasbecome even more critical.
For years we’ve recognized high purity industrial cleaning as a vital link in maintaining component and system reliability. Here’s what we’ve done to make sure Miller-Stephenson spray cleaners can help achieve the system integrity you need.
Purity comes first!
We use only the highest grade manufacturer-certified solvents and nonflammable propellants. In laboratory testing, Miller-Stephenson spray cleaners contain the lowest residues in the industry - some approaching 5-7 parts per million. The gen-eral industry range is 50-130 ppm.
Attention - filters at work.We triple filter our solvents and propellants for the highest purity level available with today’s technology. The filtered prod-uct goes directly into special containers eliminating any possibility of contamination.
We’re fussy about our work environment. Our production facility is immaculate and well maintained to insure the quality and purity of our products. We include theuse of smocks, caps, foot coverings and special air filters.
Why do we tell you all this?Because we believe no other spray cleaner already on the market meets these purity standards. We think the rigid stan-dards we demand of our products will help you meet your own high level of safety and reliability.

Vertrel® X-B3 Cutting & Drilling FluidT0701A (16 oz Aerosol)T0701A(M) (8 oz Aerosol)T0701B (Qt, Gal, 5G, 55G)
Developed for the aerospace industry, Vertrel® X-B3 delivers a nonflammable lubricant to the machining operation whileproviding cooling to the cutting tool and work surface. The drilling and cutting process can then be optimized for cuttingspeed, tool life and surface finish. Vertrel® X-B3's rapid volatility helps assure effective cooling along with uniform deliveryof lubricant to the cutting point. The improved cooling efficiency minimizes thermal expansion. This effect not only improvesthe ability of the cutting and high speed drilling operations to extremely close tolerances, but also improves the surface fin-ish and quality of the finished workpiece. The components of Vertrel® X-B3 are volatile, and therefore leave no cutting fluidresidues to clean after drilling. This is particularly valuable when machined surfaces must be painted or are part of a struc-ture to which sealants and protective coatings must adhere. No ODC (ozone depleting chemicals).

RELEASE AGENTS / DRY LUBRICANTS
26
iller-Stephenson PTFE Release Agents and DryLubricants offer high quality, value and purity. In this day
of dynamic product development, Miller-Stephenson has
remained consistent, providing alternatives which meet
today’s rapidly changing needs while maintaining a bridge
to formulations of the past. During this multi-decade tran-
sition from chlorofluorocarbon carriers to friendlier ozone-
impact solutions, Miller-Stephenson continues to provide
its customers with a wide selection of alternative products
in both aerosol and bulk liquid form. We offer the best
products currently available and continue to remain
focused on the future. Meanwhile, we shall not lose sight
of our never-ending objective of providing our customers
with the quality products and services they have come to
PTFE - The MainstayPTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) has been the active ingredient in our Release Agent/Dry Lubricant formulations formany years. Except for manufacturing adjustments involving ozone friendly processes, PTFE has remained virtu-ally the same and continues to be the premier release agent solution. Based on Teflon® chemistry, PTFE, in Miller-Stephenson formulations, provides suspensions of low molecular weight fluoropolymers in a variety of easy to useforms. PTFE’s outstanding lubricity and low coefficient of friction make Miller-Stephenson products not only ideal formold release applications but also for dry lubrication.
Thermal StabilityPTFE has excellent high temperature properties up to 580°F/304°C, it can be heated above its melting pointbefore appreciable decomposition begins. PTFE contains a range of molecular weights. Prolonged heatingcan cause sublimation of the lower molecular weight fractions with accompanying weight loss. The actual sublimation rate is dependent on temperature, area, and air flow. (For extreme high temperature 1562°F/850°C see Boron Nitride Release Agents on page 34.)
Chemical StabilityPTFE displays excellent chemical stability. It is completely resistant to concentrated nitric acid, concentrat-ed hydrochloric acid, 30% aqueous sodium hydroxide, and 30% alcoholic potassium hydroxide at tempera-tures of 212°F/100°C. Concentrated sulfuric acid attacks the fluorotelomer at 212°F/100°C but has no effect at room temperature.
SolubilityPTFE is essentially insoluble in all nonfluorinated solvents. Since PTFE consists of a range of molecular weights, approximately 10% of the lowest molecular weight fractions are soluble in fluorinated solvents.
WHY MILLER-STEPHENSON?Our products, with PTFE, provide distinct advantages not available from other formulations.
MULTIPLE RELEASESMiller-Stephenson mold release agents work longer, yielding more release cycles from each application. This results in higher productivity.
NO MIGRATIONThese release agents contain no silicones which can show up unexpectedly as oily residue in other work areas.
MINIMAL TRANSFERTransfer of mold release to molded parts is negligible, minimizing interference with post finishing operations such as painting, bonding or metalizing.
NO OILS OR WAXESThere is no gumming or charring; therefore, no need for harsh scraping and cleaning which can shorten mold life.

EXCELLENT FOR COMPLEX MOLDED PARTS
Miller-Stephenson release agents have proven themselves in the most complicated and demanding molded part con-figurations imaginable. The active ingredient is PTFE, or polytetrafluoroethylene, which has an extremely low coeffi-cient of friction and, thus, imparts high lubricity and excellent nonstick properties. Distortion is virtually nonexistent - anextremely important criterion in precision molding.

DuPont has introduced several unique tech-nologies in their line of Krytox® FluorinatedLubricants! These include:
EG SeriesA new series of fluorinated lubricants designed for electronic man-ufacturing. It can be used in ball bearings, linear rails, ball andlead screw designs and all other places where a durable, reliablelubricant is required. This series also offers a lubricant for cleanroom operations. It has been designed to be clean room friendlyand deliver the performance of conventional lubrication.
XHT (Extra High Temperature) LubricantsA new series of fluoropolymer lubricants designed for applicationsin the 400° - 760°F temperature range with spikes to 800°F. Theselubricants were designed to meet the demands of applicationsinvolving extreme operating temperatures while maintaining theKrytox® standards of being chemically inert, thermally stable, non-flammable, and nonvolatile.
FG (Food Grade H-1) LubricantsAnother addition to the line of Krytox® products includes 16 newFG (Food Grade) fluoropolymer performance lubricants. Theseare approved as lubricants with incidental food contact (H-1) foruse in and around food processing areas. They may be used onfood processing equipment as a release agent on gaskets orseals of tank closures, or as a lubricant for machine parts andequipment where there is a potential exposure of the lubricatedpart to food.
Linear Fluids (High Viscosity Index)Also, a new line of Krytox® Linear fluids is available. These fluidshave the standard excellent chemical and thermal stability butwith improved High Viscosity Indexes. The new fluoropolymer mol-ecular structure produces an oil that maintains the desired vis-cosity over a wider temperature range.
Krytox ® XP Lubricants with Patented SolubleAdditivesKrytox® XP oils and greases with patented soluble additives areformulated for anti-rust, anti-wear, and extreme pressure applica-tions. Since there are no solid additives in these formulations, improved performance is obtained. Bearings run quieter and wearless, extending bearing and component life. The anticorrosion pro-tection reduces rusting and allows longer grease and bearing life. The extreme pressure properties of the additive protect bearingsunder high loads.
