Maybole Design Charrette Iglu joined a design and economic team to run a charrette event in Maybole, Ayrshire. The four day event sought to produce a series of design solutions for four key areas within Maybole. These solutions were based on an understanding of the economic realities and limitations of Maybole. Collaboration and opinion was sought from members of the public and key public and private organisations and businesses operating in Maybole. Ensuring proposals would be ‘owned’ and championed by key local stakeholders. Iglu produced a series of sketches and graphics setting out a vision for Maybole, helping to communicate how measures being recommended by the solutions could achieve a more attractive, connected and usable Maybole. glu i IDEAS AND CONSULTATION Iglu provide a range of stakeholder consultation services. These range from public exhibitions, where stakeholders are informed of proposals for their area and encouraged to comment, to design charrettes, where stakeholders are actively engaged in the design process and play a key part in shaping their own communities. Motherwell, Design CharretteIglu worked as part of a team, led by Planning Aid for Scotland (PAS) setting out a programme of actions seeking to improve both the perceptual and physical characteristics of Motherwell Town Centre. Iglu formed a key interpretative role, feeding public ideas and opinions into viable and deliverable design solutions for the town.

With a specific role producing both computer generated imagery, to visualise proposed changes to key parts of the town’s public realm, and the final graphic-rich report, documenting the process and outcomes of the charrette.

Dunblane Western Expansion ExhibitionIglu prepared a vision for the western expansion of Dunblane, primarily exploring the development of two key sites along the western and southern access roads into the town. The overall vision for growth was accompanied by conceptual masterplans for each of the two sites. The vision and masterplans combined helped to highlight the creation of new sustainable linkages to the town centre, a strengthening of the town edge and improved connections to the countryside.

For the exhibition Iglu both designed the banners and talked people through the proposals, encouraging them to leave comments on what they had seen.

Larkhall Community Growth AreaIglu produced a Masterplan, Design and Access Statement, and Landscape and Visual Assessment for a Community Growth Area to the north east of Larkhall. As part of the submission a community consultation event was undertaken, with Iglu preparing banners and graphics to both inform and allow local residents to comment on the masterplan being proposed.

The masterplan sought to utilise the existing landscape structure and historic patterns of town growth to inform the 45 hectare site, introducing a new linear parkland, a legible street hierarchy and an extensive network of foot and cycle paths.

Trossachs National Park Consultation Workshops Iglu assisted PAS in consulting young people on their thoughts for the future of Trossachs National Park. Using visioning techniques, such as group sketching, ideas were explored and collated on both what the national park meant to them and how they thought it should change in the future to have an increased relevance to young peoples’ lives.
