Tocopherols proven safe but higher loss of omega-3’s (250 ppm residual)

• Production of anchovy fishmeal samples in South Africa
• Start in January 2018 at the latest for one year
• Laboratory analyses performed by experienced local lab

AMENDMENT TIMELINE FOR THE IMDG CODE
SP 308 Stabilization of fish meal shall be achieved to preventspontaneous combustion by effective application ofethoxyquin, BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) or tocopherols(also used in a blend with rosemary extract) at the time ofproduction.The said application shall occur within
twelve months prior to shipment.Fish scrap or fish meal shall contain at
least 50 ppm (mg/kg) of ethoxyquin, 100ppm (mg/kg) of BHT or 250 ppm(mg/kg) of tocopherol
based antioxidant at thetime of consignment.
