The hill and valley of Manipur are traversed by many rivers/streams of Manipur river basin and Barak river sub-basin.

The undulating topography coupled with deforestation in the catchment area of the rivers lead to accelerated draining of water by the rivers thereby endangering the river bunds.

The consequences are frequent devastation of Flood resulting heavy loses in terms of socio-economic value and even life.
