Education is an important component of the mission and philosophy of everyone involved. These classes are provided with respect for the individuals’ needs within the structure of the services provided and the organization’s values. REGISTRATION: This catalog indicates those programs which Require Registration. As an IEMS, IFD, or SFD employee you may self-enroll through the ninth brain system. (Just remember, that if you have en-rolled into any class that we offer, if your name is not on the class roster provided by the instructor of the class, you will not get credit for the course.) If you are not an affiliated employee you may e-mail Jill Bruce at [email protected], at least one week in advance to reserve your seat. If you plan to attend,
then you must be registered. CANCELLATION: Academic Services reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient registration or emergency situations. Registrants will be notified if cancellation occurs. You will need to provide all contact information to Jill or within the ninth brain system, when you register for any class. We will notify participants by e-mail and/or phone call in case of cancellation. If you plan to attend a class, be sure you are registered. If you are not, we will be unable to contact you about cancellations. CONTINUING EDUCATION MANUAL - GUIDELINES: If you would like the Academic Services Chief to obtain the signatures of the Medical Director or the provider CEO, your forms must be submitted to him by the 15th of the month prior to your expiration date. If you are using the content from the Ninth Brain system for your didactic hours, you can place everything into your continuing education document. At your convenience, contact an Academic Services staff mem-ber for appropriate signatures; be prepared with your printed transcript. EMTs can obtain in-service anywhere as long as appropriate documentation is provided. However, Audit & Review (A & R) can only be obtained at your provider’s organization. All skills will be completed with IEMS. Paramedics must obtain all in-service or approval for all in-service (topics, A & R, and skills) from their supervising hospital(s) or affiliated agencies or hospitals. If you obtain in-service from another agency or organization, be sure to keep all paperwork for proof of attendance.
Class dates for 2020 are final. Dates for 2021 are subject to change until the printing of the next book.

NREMT (Notes on the NCCP Program) The National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) has three components:
National Component NCCR (National Continued Competency Requirement)
Local Component LCCR (Local Continued Competency Requirement)
Individual Component ICCR (Individual Continued Competency Requirement) The chart below shows each of these components with both the total hours required and the hours allowable from distributive education (DE). Distributive education is anything that is not a live, face-to-face interaction between an instructor and a student.

NCCR: The National Component represents 50% of the overall requirements necessary to renew National EMS Certification. The topic requirements for the Na-tional Component are on page 5 of this document. This document is a combination of the NCCP 2016 and the breakdown of the Standardized Course Guide. The NCCP document will be updated every four years. Both continuing education hours and skill credit breakdown can be found throughout this document. The CEU hours for the National Component must fit to the topics on page 5. The CEU hour breakdown in this document is based on the time spent within each of the courses that are listed in this document. LCCR: The Local Component represents 25% of the recertification requirements for all EMS Providers. This component may be determined and updated by the State of Indiana. Items and topics for this component may be obtained by:
Changes in EMS Protocols
Tasks that require remediation based upon a quality assurance program
National EMS Information Systems (NEMSIS)
Audit and Review programs and/or Grand Rounds
Anything that would be issued or required by the State of Indiana or local agencies You may use a course only once toward the total number of hours required in each topic. ICCR: The Individual Component represents 25% of the required continuing education hours. These topics can be anything selected by the individual. There are no limitations on the number of hours in a specific topic, but the same course may not be used more than once in a registration cycle. Additional Notes: In the NCCP Model or Recertification, CPR and ACLS are not required but if documented those standardized course hours may be applied to any of the three NCCP components.
The following CANNOT be applied towards continuing education for recertification for NREMT but may be used for state recertification if marked with a “*” below:
Performance of duty or volunteer time with agencies
Clinical rotations
Instructor methodology courses*
Management/leadership courses
Preceptor hours
Serving as a skill examiner*
NREMT Standardized Course Guide
NOTE: The hour (s) listed above are the total hour (s) required in each of the topicareas. These times do not specifically mean you get that amount of time from each of the specific standardized courses.

Overview This Tip will help you to report your continuing education hours and harness the power of the NinthBrain
system. The NinthBrain system will sort your continuing education hours for you into categories if you know
how to access the report. This short tutorial will teach you the steps in that process.
NinthBrain Tips
Step 1
Your dashboard will look slightly different from mine, I have one more tab than you do [an administrator tab]. You will have two tabs along the left side of your dashboard that looks like what you see in the graphic to the left. There is a tab with a checkbox and a tab with a folder. Click on the tab with the folder to reveal the menu that you need.
Step 2 This will bring up a menu and one of the choices is “Credentials”. Left click “Credentials”.

Page 7
Step 3
This brings up the “My Credential Record” section. You will immediately see things such as your certification, etc., that has been uploaded here. Some but probably not all of your certifications are here. As we move forward with NinthBrain the certifications will be uploaded here by HR. Click on the second tab labeled “CE Credit Activity”.
Step 4
This brings you to a fly-down box that asks you to select a credential you want to look at. The system is specifically set up to look at Indiana EMT, Indiana Paramedic and Indiana Primary Instructor certifications. Please note that the system does not track Primary Instructor teaching hours, however does track adult education hours.

Step 5 Choose the credential [certification] you want to look at.
Step 6
The system should default to the correct date range for your certification. If this does not happen, please contact the eLearning system analysist, Michael McNutt at [email protected] and provide me with the correct information and I will fix that. If a credential is not in the database [Medic etc.] please notify me as well.

Step 6 The report will come out similar to the Paramedic categorization report. It provides a category for the EMT and a category for the Paramedic. In the example below, it shows that the credits for the EMT are in the “General category” and for the Paramedic the credits go in the “Airway/Breathing/Cardiology” category. You will note that the hours awarded for each program are noted with the program and there is a PDF that you can download and look at. Generally, this PDF document will also provide information if there are practical skills associated with the program, what those skills were, and what the course would apply to for the old national registry standards. Please note that these programs have not been evaluated yet to see how they relate to the newest National Registry standards, which are just now going into effect, that has yet to be evaluated.

Step 7 You will note that at the bottom of the form there are a number of areas that start off with the word “Skill”. These are all skills that are checked off as part of classroom-based activities such as refresher classes, ACLS, CPR, AMLS, PHTLS etc. This provides you with a date to place into your continuing education form for the various skills. Note that the skills do not have hour values because skills are simply a “yes you have it or no you don’t have it” type of thing and hours are not counted in the skill category.

Course ENROLLMENT: IEMS, IFD, and SFD personnel may sign up via the Ninth Brain calendar. All others needing to enroll in any course can contact Jill Bruce [email protected]. COURSE DESCRIPTION: The goal of the ACLS EP Course is to improve outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, and toxicologic emergencies by expanding on core ACLS guidelines and encouraging critical thinking and deci-sion-making strategies. Through instruction and active participation in case-based scenarios, learners enhance their skills in differential diagnosis and treatment of prearrest, arrest and postarrest patients. The course content includes; applying the expanded systematic approach to patient assessment, evaluation and management of: cardiovascular emergencies, cerebro-vascular emergencies, clinical pharmacology, and toxicology emergencies. Effective communication within a resuscitation team and recognition of the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance. This course includes lectures, skill stations and scenarios. The textbook is a necessity to pass the course, so be sure to get a copy prior to the course. Initial course includes written pre-course exam. Written examination requires 84% to pass. This exam must be done prior to the classroom course either online or with the course coordinator. The first half of the one-day program is a recertification course for the standard ACLS. This includes the use of the BVM, Cardiac arrest management with the use of the AED, and the passing of the megacode examination. The second half of the day is broken down into four main areas with detailed interactive discussion of cardiovascular, respiratory, pharmacology and toxicology, and post cardi-ac arrest care. Certification Period: Participants will get a 2-year certification upon successful completion of this 1-day program. TARGET AUDIENCE: Advanced Providers COURSE COORDINATOR: Mark Mangrum TEXTBOOKS: A pretest is required for all participants. You must complete the pretest to participate in the course.
