What does an IEEE-HKN Student Chapter do?

Induct qualified students, professionals and faculty into their Student Chapter as IEEE-HKN membersEngage in a large variety of service activities, including tutoring, technical competitions, community outreach, and outreach to high schoolsOrganize scholarly activities Provide assistance to students through tutoring and organizing help sessions on different subjects Participate in social outreach activities to the communityOrganize activities for pre-university students on engineering and science (e.g., science fairs)

IEEE-HKN Chapters and IEEE Student Branches - Basics

There can be several models for Chapter Establishment and Operation with relation to Student Branches can be accommodated – “Independent model” – separate from, and operate

independently of, one another– “Collaborative model” – separate from, but operate

collaboratively, on projects/activities– “Integrated model” – sub-unit of Student Branch with

individuals holding similar officer positions, including Faculty Advisor and Student Branch Counselor

Forming a Chapter of IEEE-HKN?

Chapters may be established at:– Any college or university that awards the Bachelor of

Engineering degree, Bachelor of Science degree, – Or an equivalent degree within an IEEE-designated field of

interest– Where the school meets the requirements of a recognized

regional or professional accrediting agency

Determination of eligibility of a school to establish a Chapter shall be made by the IEEE-HKN Board of Governors in consultation with:– The pertinent accreditation agencies, – Educational organizations, and – IEEE organizational units

IEEE-HKN CHAPTERSProcess for forming an IEEE-HKN Chapter is on the IEEE-HKN Website www.hkn.org

– letter from a minimum of at least 8 eligible students wishing to establish the chapter and become its charter members

– endorsement letter from the university officials to establish the chapter and support its formation on campus

– letter from university officials stating the school met requirements of a recognized regional or professional accrediting agency

– proposed operations manual for the new chapter
