INTRODUCTION

Objective Number

Objective Success Criteria

1 My blog must be usable and useful. My blog should also serve clients

To have 50 hits.

2 My Blog should be popular to a diverse group of people.

To have viewers from 10 different countries

3 My Blog should be interactive. Have a survey asking rugby questions.

4 My clients should be aware of the survey results.

Create statistics from the survey and post them on the blog.

5 My survey should be fairly done. The survey starts on June 20th 2013 and closes on September 1st 2013.

6 My Blog should be thorough and should be a thick blog with lots of posts.

To have at least 50 blog posts.

7 My blog should allow users a chance to talk with me one on one.

To have my e-mail shown to let viewers contact me if necessary.

8 My blog will have a diverse age demographic. I will use a survey to find out the age of my viewers.

9 My Survey must be well used to give a large field of results.

To have at least 50 survey responses.

This evaluation will look at how the different objectives have been achieved/not achieved throughout the course. Here are the 9 objectives I set myself:

CLARIFICATION ON SURVEYS

For clarification, when the objectives talk about the survey, it is referring to the earlier survey which was part of the product but also the initial testing process. The later survey was the main method I had for testing but throughout the evaluation I will be clear on which survey I am referring to. Both surveys were made on Survey Monkey.

OBJECTIVE 1

OBJECTIVE 1: “My blog must be useable and useful. My blog should also serve clients.” I decided to measure this objective as successful if my blog had 50 hits.

Page 5: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 1-POSITIVES

I did achieve having 50 hits with my blog getting a staggering 395 hits in the end with that number slowly increasing still. Also I was able to show good communication skills with the client after making the blog more “useful and useable” by creating categories for posts after I was suggested by a viewer of my blog.

The amount of Hits: An example of a category:

Page 6: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 1- NEGATIVES

Although there are 395 hits, there are only actually 4 comments on my blog. That suggests that the blog may not be useful enough to sustain a community. Also the blog was given on average a 3/5 for the idea that it was truly useful from the original test. However there was clearly an improvement with the later testing process (a survey like the original test) showing on average that the blog was solving the problem and was useful at a 4/5.

OBJECTIVE 1- OVERALL

Overall

The Objective overall was successful but maybe could have been more successful if more comments were made which could have been achieved by creating a better communication link.

Page 8: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 2

OBJECTIVE 2: “My Blog should be popular to a diverse group of people.” I decided to measure this objective as successful if I had viewers from at least 10 different countries.

OBJECTIVE 2- POSITIVES+NEGATIVES

Positives

My initial survey clearly had rugby related questions which made the product more “interactive”. These rugby related questions were clearly set out and allowed viewers to get more involved. Also I had widgets cluttered over my blog in order to make it more interactive for viewers. These widgets included a day by day countdown till the next Rugby World Cup and also national anthem videos embedded in the widget areas. Negatives:The initial survey came up with these results: Out of 36 responses, there were 30 from Hong Kong, 4 from the UK and 2 from Germany. The later survey and the main way of testing in relation to fitness for purpose and objectives came up with these results from 23 responses.

OBJECTIVE 2- OVERALL

The objective overall failed despite improvements. The initial survey showed up with a very uniform group of people who were interested in my blog. The second survey however would have shown up with a more significant Hong Kong viewing representation if there had been as many responses in the initial survey. The objective in truth did fail with the measure for success being viewers from 10 different countries which was calculated by the surveys. Though the improvement from 3 different countries of viewers for the initial survey to the final survey having viewers from 8 different countries showing that the blog was slowly spreading around the world to a more diverse group of people.

Page 11: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 3

OBJECTIVE 3: “My Blog should be interactive.” I decided to measure this by having a survey that asked rugby related questions on the survey.

Page 12: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 3- POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES

PositivesMy initial survey clearly had rugby related questions which made the product more “interactive”. These rugby related questions were clearly set out and allowed viewers to get more involved. Also I had widgets cluttered over my blog in order to make it more interactive for viewers. These widgets included a day by day countdown till the next Rugby World Cup and also national anthem videos embedded in the widget areas.NegativesMy second survey which was the more official testing survey had no rugby related questions which meant that it added no interactivity value to the product.

Page 13: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 3- OVERALL

The Objective overall clearly passed with the product clearly being interactive with success in terms of the initial survey having rugby related. Although the testing survey having no rugby related questions doesn’t strengthen the case for definitively passing this objective. Also the success measure is too easy to pass and it should be harder to truly make the product interactive.

Page 14: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 4

OBJECTIVE 4: “My clients should be aware of the survey results.” My success measure was that the statistics would be published on my blog to allow clients to see them.

Page 15: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 4- POSITIVES, NEGATIVES AND OVERALL

Positives I clearly did not meet this objective to any real success. Although I was able to have statistics for the initial survey which is what the objective is talking about but I did not post them on the survey.  NegativesIt is clear though that there is no post on my blog that explains to my clients the survey results. This shows poor commitment and involvement on my part pertaining to that objective. That is something that should have been addressed.OverallThe Objective overall failed clearly with there being no record of a post that shows these results and statistics from the survey. The only positive from a commitment and involvement perspective that can come out of this objective is that I did actually have statistics at the ready which showed that I was aware of the objective but didn’t complete the final hurdle.

Page 16: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 5+ POSITIVES

OBJECTIVE 5: “My survey should be fairly done.” My success measure was that the survey would have clear closing date and by doing that it would make the survey a fair initial testing process.Positives:I clearly set a close date for the survey which made it a fair survey in that respect and fulfilled the success criteria.

Page 17: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 5- NEGATIVES AND OVERALL

NegativesThe survey has a close date set on the 18th September when the close date explicitly on the success measurement said for the survey to “close on the 1st September 2013”.OverallThe Objective overall narrowly passed as there was a clearly a closing date that worked with the survey clearly being fair and following the general idea and intentions of the objective. There was large negative of the passing of the objective as it was clear that I did not explicitly follow the clear success criteria that wanted the survey to end on the specific date of 1st September 2013.

Page 18: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 6- POSITIVES, NEGATIVES AND OVERALL

Objective 6“My Blog should be thorough and should be a thick blog with lots of posts.” I decided to measure the success of this objective as having at least 50 blog posts.Positives With 56 posts, it is clear that I comprehensively wrote them and put in a lot of detail to each one so that my blog would be thorough and one with lots of posts. IT also shines through my commitment and involvement to finish all these posts to the highest quality.NegativesThere are no clear negatives that can be seen in terms of this objective except that maybe some posts could have analysis structured in a more understandable format. Although there is no doubt that the posts are detailed.OverallThis Objective overall clearly passed with it being evident that the 56 blog posts met not only the quantity but also the quality that was provided in the success criteria in order to pass and complete this objective overall.

Page 19: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 7+ POSITIVES

Objective 7“My blog should allow users a chance to talk with me one on one.” I decided to measure the success of this objective as having a contact us/ about me page with my email. PositivesI don’t clearly have an email contact which is what the objective is meant to have based off the success criteria. Although I do have a twitter feed which can be used for communication as well as me posting my phone number on the blog as well.

Page 20: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 7- NEGATIVES AND OVERALL

NegativesI have not clearly followed what I was meant to in terms of success criteria for managing to complete and pass this objective.OverallThis objective overall narrowly failed as I did no really follow the specific success criteria which were imperative to passing this objective. However I have set up communication links between me and possible clients.

Page 21: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

OBJECTIVE 8+ POSITIVES

Objective 8“My blog will have a diverse age demographic.” My success criteria for this is to determine this through my survey having an age question for viewers in order to gain a general idea of the age demographics within my viewing community. PositivesFrom my later testing survey it is clear that the age demographics are diverse and well spread out as shown by the chart below:

OBJECTIVE 8- NEGATIVES AND OVERALL

NegativesMy initial survey had adverse results with the age demographics being concentrated around the 0-30 year old age bracket: OverallThis Objective overall clearly passed with there being a diverse age demographic within the viewers of my product after the final 23 response survey clearly showed the results I wanted to see in order for this Objective to pass.

OBJECTIVE 9- POSITIVES, NEGATIVES AND OVERALL

Objective 9“My Survey must be well used to give a large field of results.” My success criterion to measure was that the survey needed at least 50 responses to pass the objective. PositivesMy initial survey had 36 responses which I know does not meet the measurement of success. Although, that is still a large number of active viewers. These viewers are involved in my feedback and interactive process that was being undertaken through my initial survey. NegativesThe second survey which was more focused on meeting the fitness for my product only had 23 responses. That is not even half the amount that was needed to successfully complete this objective. Overall This Objective overall clearly failed with my initial survey only having 72% of the minimum needed and my later testing process survey only having 46% of the minimum needed to pass and complete this objective.

EVALUATING THE PROCESS

Page 25: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

RESEARCH & PLANNING AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

Research & Planning- My Research and planning was fairly thorough with me researching into big decision before making them. I did extensive research into the best blog providers for my product as well as looking into similar rugby analysis blogs on the internet right now and looking into what my blog could have to add to that. I came to the idea that I should have opinionated posts which I do to some extent as well as having a nice background picture. Although I did specifically mention trying to be about analysis and not news however some of the posts on my blog are more news related. It is clear that I did good planning and research generally but I also could have improved by doing more research into social media before deciding to use twitter.Technical Skills- I clearly learnt a lot about blogging and how to use the android software Rugby Doodle app although I didn’t clearly go into much detail in the fact that I wouldn’t say my knowledge and using of them is particularly advanced.

Page 26: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

COMMUNICATION AND TESTING

Communication- I had good communication with clients in terms of comments and also by having a twitter feed. I also was good at being interactive which is an aspect of communication that I covered well in my initial survey. I also was good at making blog posts that were aimed at clients as well to keep the communication link going. I could improve my communication by having put my email so that clients could create a one-on-one communication link with me. I could also have used twitter more actively.Testing (Fitness For Purpose)- I clearly tested my project using my second survey and I managed to ask clear questions that allowed clients to concisely give their views on how I met my Objectives as well as my areas of creativity and originality as well as communication. I also made my survey anonymous in order to guarantee that clients would answer honestly. To improve I could use other testing methods other than just a survey.

Page 27: IE award rugby analysis blog-evaluation

ORIGINALITY AND CREATIVITY

Originality & Creativity- I clearly made creative decisions when I did things and clearly documented key decisions as well as showing how original those decisions were. Although I only really looked at these decisions on very basic level and could improve by looking at it at a deeper level.
