Cities of the future IE MiM Application - Sergio Pozo Ríos
The challenge ahead:• Traffic jams, pollution…
are just the symptoms of the inefficiency of our cities.
• New technologies bring us the opportunity to develop our cities and adapt them to our current and future needs.
Transportation: short distances• Bikes and public transport will be
the main way of transportation for short and medium distances.
• Car-sharing platforms will significantly reduce the need for owning private cars.
• Electric cars will become common for people who prefer the benefits of owning a private car.
Transportation: long distances• Big Data analysis and optimization will make
public transport competitive against private car for daily commuting from the suburbs.• Example: Barcelona has redesigned its
bus network based on real usage data.
• For even longer distances, a new generation of planes and trains will allow people to travel efficiently and cheaply.
Energy: optimization• Solar energy will be
collected at a local stage to provide electricity and heat for our daily activities.
• Solar and wind power plants will capture energy for the rest of the tasks.
• New storage systems will be developed to capture energy and ensure availability during bad weather conditions.
• New intelligent designs will significantly reduce the needs for energy and water.
New landscape:• Cities will evolve and
become denser. As a result, metropolis will be more efficient.
