INTRODUCTION
Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) was started in November 2004 to detect and respond to disease
outbreaks quickly. IDSP was formally launched in Chhattisgarh on 19th of November 2005.
The general objectives of IDSP are –
1. Integration and decentralization of surveillance activities through establishment of surveillance units at Centre,
State and District level.
2. Human Resource Development – Training of State Surveillance Officers, District Surveillance Officers, Rapid
Response Team and other Medical and Paramedical staff on principles of disease surveillance.
3. Information Communication Technology - for collection, collation, compilation, analysis and dissemination of
data.
4. Strengthening of public health laboratories.
Under IDSP weekly data is collected on epidemic prone diseases on weekly basis (Monday – Sunday) by the
Districts/Blocks. The information is collected in three specified format namely “S” (Suspected Cases), “P”
(Presumptive Cases) and “L” (Laboratory confirmed cases).
Weekly data gives information on the disease trends and seasonality of diseases. Whenever there is a rising trend of
illness in any area, it is investigated by the Rapid Response Team (RRT) to diagnose and control the outbreak.

Surveillance Report of Epidemic Prone Diseases
1. Surveillance of diseases of epidemic potential is very important for the early diagnosis and prompt
action by health authority.
2. Surveillance Report of Acute Diarrheal Diseases, Enteric Fever, Hepatitis and ARI/ILI are prepared on
the basis of IDSP presumptive surveillance (P- form).
3. Prevalence Rate is calculated for the year 2016 (Jan to Dec 2016) for each districts and compared
according to prevalence of diseases.
