What is Identity?• Identity is a person's conception and
expression of their individuality or group affiliations (such as national identity and cultural identity).
• The term "identity" refers to the capacity for self-reflection and the awareness of self (interests, uniqueness, ethnicity, personal experience, etc.)
• Relates to self-image (a person's mental model of him or herself), self-esteem, and individuality.
• Individual identity – the unique sense of personhood held by each person in their own right.
• Social identity – a collective sense of belonging to a group, identifying themselves as having something in common with other group members.
• Cultural identity – a sense of belonging to a distinct ethnic, cultural or subcultural group.

Who are YOU?• What defines you?
• How do you see yourself?
• Are you your thoughts and ideas?
Take a moment to write some words that describe you. Brainstorm words, sketch images and objects that you associate with for example; music + guitar + ipod
Think About It! • What is your name? Does it stand for anything?• Age• Birth Order • National Origin • Geographic Identification • Personality Traits • Favorite foods/music/movies/film or books?• Hobbies or Interests • Talents/Skills/Abilities• Dreams / Future Goals• Etc.
Requirements:
• Brainstorm a creative “spider” using words that describe you and sketch images and objects that you associate with…for example; music + guitar + ipod
• Just because it’s a exercise to help you with your final project doesn’t mean it has to look dirty and unprofessional! Get creative and add color and use symbols and sketch! Have a clean presentation with all your work.
• Writing must be legible
• Must have color and sketches
• Paper must be at least 8.5 x 11
Mapping Myself
Requirements:
• Create a collages of yourself using personal pictures and found images (magazines, newspapers, etc.)
• Include text; share your thoughts and descriptions. For example; If you use a photo of guitar, explain what is your relationship and experience with it.
“I love music! My grandfather used to play guitar when I was a child and I want to follow in his footsteps. I love the the strumming sound the guitar makes when I play traditional Mexican music!”
• Paper must be at least 8.5 x 11
