Things to be checked during the Site Survey
• Please check the length of the power cable and capacity of the power plant. Power
for NSN BTS to be tapped from existing power system.•Space for NSN BTS Standalone commissioning.
•Check the External alarms to be configured and labeled. Make a list of these alarmsand verify that how many of them are working.
•Check the Transmission topology (Loop or not).
•Feeder VSWR testing and Return Loss Measurement. This could be done duringsite survey – requires outage (5-10min per feeder). If the VSWR is more th an 1.3, it is very impo rtant to check the feeder end to end. Also perform cable loss measurements.
•Site specific jumpers to be made depending on the site/survey.
•Connect Jumper cable to the NSN BTS Top – Mark the feeders fo r sector A ,B,C
•Checking whether combiner is used or in the bypass mode.
•Outdoor BTS RF Cable length in term of Nokia BTS Utilization mode.

Standalone Installation and Commissioning Checks
INSTALLATION :
• Make sure to check all the grounding points before inserting the plug in units.• Connect the power supply and check the input voltage at the connector.
• Now insert all the cards and do the necessary cabling. Make sure to put on the antistaticbands. All cabling should be properly tightened by torque wrinch.
• Combiner should be used based on the input given by RF Team.
• Make two BTS PCM Cables (BTS FXC-E1 TQ to DDF). Length is site specific.
COMMISSIONING :
Steps by BTS HW Configurator
• Run the configuration wizard for standard configuration and then change it according to therequired configuration.
• Now install Base band cards, Power supply and transmission cards.
• Send BTS configuration to BTS. It is very imp ortant to set the correct cabl ing in the BTS HW conf igurator.
• Note down the passive units serial numbers, complete passive units configuration and sendto BTS.
• Save the BTS hw configuration file (.hwc) and also passive units configuration file (.hwi)

4)-Traffic Manager
Define the TRX TCH, 32 K TRX SIG on TCH for BCCH TRXs and Separate TRX SIG for other TRXs , OMU SIG and EDAP as per the Abis Plan. ( As per Attached Configuration)
5)-Cross connections
a)-The cross connections for the traffic manager are made automatically. Copy them in theinactive bank.
b)-If the site is in loop, Make sure to reserve the Masking bits for both the directions as per theTransmission/Abis plan.
c)-Bypass all the timeslots/2MBs that are not required for this site.
d)-Now activate the inactive bank
e)-Check the alarms, save the node file.

Standalone Installation and Commissioning Checks
FINAL STEPS :-
• Download the BTS SW into the BOI card.
• Now proceed to the commissioning wizard and follow the instructions.
• Do the power measurements from Tests/send BCCH carrier tab. Make sure the attenuationis zero dB. Power meter has to be connected at the BTS top. The power o f TRXs at the
top of BTS cabinet should not be less than 44.5 dBm w ithout c ombiners and 41 dBm with combiners. If i t is less than this, then ch eck al l the TX path conn ect ions. If needed replace the TRX --- pow er measurem ent in watts
• Calibrate the 13 MHz clock from Clock Control tab. Make sure that BTS is in standalonemode i.e, no connection from BSC to BTS. Before the clock calibration, make sure that
frequency counter is Power ON for at least 30 minutes. It is a must to make sure that the clo ck is exactl y 13.000000 MHz.
• Checking of external alarms at the time of commissioning. The external alarm cable and the connector h ave to be ver i f ied at the t ime of commiss ioning

Swap Activities on BTS Site
Step 1: Connecting Abis cable (10-20 Min)
• Check the loop from DDF at BTS site to FXC Unit.
• Through connect the Transmission path and check the OMUSIG status “WO”with
Engineer at BSC/OSS side.
Step 2: Changing feeder cables (30-40 Min)
• Identify the feeders which will be connected to Nokia BTS(Mark the feeders carefullyfor each sector) – The feeders shou ld not be swapped.
• Check MHA + Bias tee+ Lightening Protectors wherever required
• Sequence of Installation where MHA is not installed : BTS Top > Lightening protector
> GSM Antenna.• Existing Lightening Protectors to be used at all the sites where there is no MHA.
• Remove the jumper connected to the Siemens existing BTS
• Temp./final routing of feeder cables .

Step3 - Integration from NSN BSC :
• Unlock the BTS site from BSC/OSS.
• Perform the call testing on all the TRXs
– Call testing should be performed using Net Monitor phones.
• GPRS Testing in every Sector
• Check the external alarms are reporting on BSC.
• Make sure that there are no alarms in OSS for this site and BTS Manager alarm Windowbefore leaving the site.
Step 4 – Cleaning the site :
• Clean the BTS/BSC site after Swap or step 3.

Description of triple Wide Band Combiner
Combiner set-up and connector locations in the new unit
Benefits:
Efficient utilisation of space
Allows some configurations to be done with less cabinets than before
Reduces the number of needed units and antennas in many cases
More flexibility for special configurations
SW compatibility: CX4.2 (Hw configurator), can also be used with older sw together with separate cabling instructions
See the following slides for more detailed information and some examples…
