Prasarana LAN UPSI dikenali sebagai UPSINet dibina pada akhir tahun 2000

Komponen UPSINet : Rangkaian backbone utama menggunakan

fiber optik berkelajuan 2 Gigabit (2000 Mbps) Rangkaian LAN menggunakan kabel UTP

(wayar tembaga) pada kelajuan 10/100 Mbps

Sambungan Internet UPSI

Sambungan UPSI ke Internet menggunakan talian suwa (lease line)dari Penyedia Pekhidmatan Internet (ISP) Jaring (34 Mbps) dan TMNet (2 Mbps)

Sambungan Kampus Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah ke Kampus Sultan Azlan Shah (Bandar Proton) menerusi talian suwa berkelajuan 1.5 Mbps

What is WiFi (Wireless Fidelity)?

A way Limited range wireless networking protocol, based on IEEE 802.11 wireless network standard (WLAN)

Allow users to transfer digital data wirelessly , at broadband speed.

WLAN provide wireless network within short distances. E.g 100-150 meters. Built by attaching Access Point (AP) to the edge of wired network. Customer communicates with AP using wireless network

Product features of WiFi

Each UPSI Wi-Fi service location has a full T1 connection that provides user with speeds of up to 1 Mbps.

Client communicate with the AP (Access point) using a wireless network.

Service Accessibility

Ulu Bernam Proton City Main Campus (By phases)

Benefit of WiFi to user

Accessible within the hotspot area for PC or laptop that is WiFi access enabled

Allow mobility around the area or access point

Potentially cheaper than house wiring

Automatic prompt to the login page

Provide wireless network communication over short distances using radio channel (e.g 100 to 150 meters)

User Requirements

Suggested Hardware Specifications (minimum requirements)

Intel Pentium 2/3/4 Operating System : WINDOWS 98 and above Celeron/Centrino Technology 128/256/512 MB RAM 20 GB Harddisk Space or higherUSB 2.0 Ports/Parallel

Port WiFi 802.11 b/g compliant card (internal/external)

Wireless Card (PCMCIA) for Notebook users Wireless USB Adapter for PC users

How to use the Service

Register for the service to obtain username and password

Before doing any configuration, make sure that you insert Wireless Card (PCMCIA) for Notebook users or connect Wireless USB Adapter for PC users

For notebook users with Centrino, make sure the wireless button is enabled and light is on

Click to Wireless Network Connection at your Task Manager at the right corner or click at Network Connections in Control Panel

Then choose the wireless SSID with the highest signal

Click browser application

Log on the username and password

Go to Control Panel and click to Network Connections

Double-click Wireless Network Connection at your Task Manager at the right corner

Make sure you select only JARING SSID

Your network is connected once you see the SSID is ‘Connected’

(note: please allow pop-up in the browser application)

And you’re freely to surf with your own registered account

To logout from the service as registered user, maximize “Perkhidmatan Wi-Fi UPSI” dialog box

and click at “Keluar” button.

Remark: You’ve to logout from your UPSI Wi-Fi service to avoid any abuse issues of your registered account.

4 Click at Registration select Dial-up Promotion

All the services available to subscribe ( as normal JARING user) will be viewed. 5

5 Click at Logout to close the session.

wireless hotspot access (max. of 1 GB per month data download)

Free JARING Dial-up and e-mail account with RM60 value.

Minimum subscription period: 6 months for student 12 months for staff
