Topic 1

Cloud Computing for Science To explore cloud computing solutions that

address researchers needs when building applications of high relevance for grand challenges (including both scientific and societal, such as environmental modeling, weather simulation, biodiversity, life sciences, etc) using distributed resources (network, computing and data).

Topic 1: Expected output

• In general: increase in computational efficiency.

Topic 2

Sustainable technologies for a Smarter Society

To explore system solutions to build sustainable complex systems that are cost effective, energy friendly, affordable and based on open standards to address current society challenges for better living, supporting the emergence of smart services and applications.

Topic 2 - R&D in this topic would target:• Technologies, components and systems for the

deployment of sustainable ICT solutions• Systems development platforms that are cost

effective, energy friendly, affordable and based on open standards

• Integration and/or re-use of existing components (sub-systems) in a systems-of-systems engineering perspective

• Demonstration of the final platform in a particular application area (energy-efficient buildings, transport and traffic management, smart grids, safety and control of the food or water supply, environment monitoring and control, etc.)

Topic 3

Smart services and applications for a Smarter Society

To support the deployment of interoperable infrastructures exploiting new trends on future Internet and open data (namely from sensors and social networks) to create context-aware services and applications of relevance for citizens in domains such as management and monitoring of large crowds at large scale events, emergency situations, mobility, etc.

Topic 3 - R&D in this topic would target:

• ●To explore data "mash up" processes which synthesizes new information by collecting, connecting, reusing, combining and semantically aggregating disjoint information extracted from a plethora of sources

• ●To develop smart, open experimental platforms to enhance the quality-of-experience of urban living

• ●To support the deployment of interoperable wireless infrastructures exploiting new trends on Future Internet and open data

• ●The federation of experimental platforms will be encouraged where appropriate

Topic 3: Expected Impact

• To foster critical mass to develop new standards and markets driven by Future Internet facilities.

• Contribution of ICT to societal and sustainability targets, including that of standards on the minimum quality guarantees of shared data

• Support to the upcoming Football World Cup and Olympic Games to be held in Brazil

Topic 4: Hybrid Broadcast-Broadband TV Applications and Services

• Hybrid broadcast-broadband TV applications and services taking advantage of the widespread Internet connectivity will be developed for commercial use, for educational or to achieve other public goals.

• Although TV broadcast transmission standards are different in Brazil and Europe, there is an opportunity to foster the development of intuitive and attractive new services connecting broadcast and broadband seamlessly, whilst enabling new business models.

Advanced Hybrid Media Experience

• Key issue: develop and author applications, which can run on different devices and software platforms

• Further relevant aspects: • Synchronisation of content from different A/V sources

running on different distributed types of devices. • Intelligent search and navigation mechanisms• Identity management, trust and security• Hyperlinking of video content, especially for social TV

applications

Expected Impact

• Enhance the competitiveness of the EU and Brazilian industry, including innovative SMEs and developers of web and TV apps.

• Allow application developers to market their services and applications worldwide, independently of the terrestrial Digital TV standard used.

• Enable new business models through the development of intuitive and attractive services, connecting broadcast and broadband seamlessly.

Two proposals submitted (EU and MCTI): The description of the work (part B) will be

common for the two coordinated proposals (English and Portuguese).

Two different administrative parts. The EU FP7 proposal cover the EC

participants and their costs. The proposal submited to MCTI cover the

The Part B must contain as an Annex a final draft of a required Coordination Agreement to be signed between the two consortia of two coordinated projects (see Annex 4 of the Guide) showing that the two consortia have already taken into account how they are going to regulate their cooperation activities, and in particular how they are going to deal with IPR issues in a balanced way, respecting the FP7 Rules of Participation.

Special requirements

Proposals must demonstrate a balanced effort between the two coordinated projects and a research plan properly involving coordinated research activities between Europe and Brazil.

Eligibility Criterion

Any proposal submitted to the European Commission as a response to the Coordinated Call with Brazil must be coordinated with a proposal submitted to the MCTI of Brazil.

Proposals which do not include coordination between the FP7 project and a Brazilian proposal will be considered ineligible. (see Annex 2 of Guide for Applicants for this call) .

The English version of the common Part B submitted to the EU call will be evaluated in a common evaluation according to the EU evaluation rules by a common group of evaluators.

To ensure a genuine EU-Brazil cooperation, priority in the evaluation will be given to proposals that demonstrate a balanced effort between the two coordinated projects and a research plan properly involving coordinated research activities between Europe and Brazil. This will be reflected in the evaluation under the criteria “Impact” and “Implementation”; (see Annex 2 of the Guide for Applicants for this call).

• Up to one proposal per topic will be funded under this call: That is one proposal for each one of the four topics (1-4) implemented via Small or medium scale focused research projects (STREPs).

• Proposals will only be selected for funding on the condition that their coordinated Brazilian project will be funded by the MCTI of Brazil. In the event that the highest-ranked proposal under a topic fails in the funding of its coordinated Brazilian project by the MCTI of Brazil, selection will pass to the next ranked proposal etc.
