In large-scale IoT deployment there will be rich combination of sensors and intelligent management schemes. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) play a very

important role in IoT.

WSNs are adopted in many applications. This paper focus on the application of Smart Grid.

Local network and InternetZigBee devices can communication to each

other.ZigBee devices can not directly communicate

with servers on the Internet.An additional mechanism is required to

translate ZigBee to TCP/IP. It would be better if have protocol can speak

with TCP/IP without translation.

There is still no universal network management protocol standard to manage two different types of ZigBee and 6LoWPAN devices.

This paper proposed using SIP(Session Initiation Protocol ) as the application layer protocol to manage ZigBee and 6LoWPAN WSNs.

This paper compared the communication protocols between a utility system and smart meters, and suggested how network management applications can be carried on these protocols.

Two major network management protocols: SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol)and SIP.

Empirically comparing SNMP and SIP, especially analyzing the transmission performance and the system resources consumption on a device.

This would allow administrators to manage

a smart grid with the best management protocol.
