ICON NEWSLETTER No.6– DRAFT To all our avid readers we are pleased to publish the 6 th edition of our newsletter. We will be featuring articles on Ashberg House, on kitchens around our various projects in London and introducing Icon’s new photo book brochure…All very exciting stuff! Featured Project – Ashberg House, Cathcart Road External shot of the front of Ashberg House, Cathcart Road. Ashberg House is perfectly situated in the heart of Chelsea surrounded by art galleries, luxury shopping boutiques and indulgent restaurants. This project takes inspiration from the diamond it is named after with its glazed architectural aesthetic. The exterior styling is a real contrast to the surrounding houses, with its Black basalt and Bronze detailing. The site was originally occupied by an early-1970s built glass and grey-panel clad home of approximately 3,000 sq ft. Following demolition, the perimeter of the entire footprint was piled, 300 secant piles in all, with further bearing and plunge piles set within to both support the main superstructure and anchor the building, which with its double basement lies 2 metres below the water table. The superstructure comprising steel frame with rib deck and RC concrete floor plates followed, giving a new GIA of circa 8,500 sq ft. The fit-out created a mix of formal and informal spaces, with a double-height dining space across lower ground and ground floors, at lower ground leading out to a private garden. At basement level, a full spa zone with a 13 metre swimming pool, gym and steam room, plus a cinema room. Five bedroom suites in total with bathrooms of Italian marble; plus a passenger lift, bespoke wine gallery, Crestron A/V and Lutron lighting. A true one-of-a-kind.

Featured Project – Ashberg House, Cathcart Road

External shot of the front of Ashberg House, Cathcart Road.

Ashberg House is perfectly situated in the heart of Chelsea surrounded by art galleries, luxury shopping

boutiques and indulgent restaurants. This project takes inspiration from the diamond it is named after

with its glazed architectural aesthetic. The exterior styling is a real contrast to the surrounding houses,

with its Black basalt and Bronze detailing.

The site was originally occupied by an early-1970s built glass and grey-panel clad home of

approximately 3,000 sq ft. Following demolition, the perimeter of the entire footprint was piled, 300

secant piles in all, with further bearing and plunge piles set within to both support the main

superstructure and anchor the building, which with its double basement lies 2 metres below the water

table. The superstructure comprising steel frame with rib deck and RC concrete floor plates followed,

giving a new GIA of circa 8,500 sq ft.

The fit-out created a mix of formal and informal spaces, with a double-height dining space across

lower ground and ground floors, at lower ground leading out to a private garden. At basement level, a

full spa zone with a 13 metre swimming pool, gym and steam room, plus a cinema room. Five bedroom

suites in total with bathrooms of Italian marble; plus a passenger lift, bespoke wine gallery, Crestron

A/V and Lutron lighting.

A true one-of-a-kind.

Kitchens

Modern life has seen the kitchen become the centre of family life, more than just a place to cook and

eat, the kitchen has become the key entertainment room, whilst also acting as playroom, study and

relaxation space. Design teams are now having to balance its core function with these wider

requirements, considering how people like to live and use the room.

Often married with informal living rooms, there’s been a movement towards discreet storage on one

hand, followed by a swing to glass-fronted spaces that “show off” its functions, and back again.

Either way, the modern, urban kitchen has become a showcase for sleek design and detailing, creative

use of lighting and a broad use of materials allowing for experimentation and innovation.

Working for Banda Property, we transformed the ground floor of a 19th century bakery into two

exceptional apartments.

This kitchen features veneered cabinetry, stone worktops and backsplash, and a fully stone-clad island

unit. It’s all in the detail they say, and this island has been constructed in such a way as to make it

appear to float, a simple shadow gap detail at the junction to the chevron floor really elevating it as

something more considered and unique.

A beautiful kitchen/breakfast room employing a mix of quarter sawn oak and lacquered panels, stone

worktops and a central island.

Further detailing includes the backlit glass display and felt-lined drawers for cutlery, above, with

appliances by Miele.

Designed and installed by Artichoke, the design is neutral in tone with interest achieved through a

subtle layering of finishes, creating a simple yet elegant space.

The “show” kitchen at Ashberg House is one half of the story, and forms one corner of a larger Family

Room at this 8,500 sq ft house in Chelsea. An informal room with multiple uses, the kitchen features a

wall of joinery that hides both storage cupboards and a feature bar, revealed by pocket doors that

disappear into the sides of the unit.

Just outside the room in the stairwell circulation space, a bespoke wine wall adds more drama, and

features eglomise mirror to the back and beautifully lit bespoke framing and glass doors

Part two of the story, just off the family room, can be found the professional kitchen – fitted out to a

similarly high standard, this room features more storage to cater for large parties, as well as a service

hoist that serves the Reception Room above when entertaining.
