well, so please get in contact with some of our ad-vertisers as their prices are very affordable for any company. We also started something new this month, a crossword puzzle, and it’s all about our clients, so if you’ve been a fan of ICED* since day 1, I think you’ll find the answers pretty easy.

We always appreciate any and all feedback from our readers, and if you would like to get in touch, our e-mails are just below at the bot-tom of the page. So from the ICED* team, have a great Movember, and as always, if you see us out and about, please come say Hi!

It’s Movember!! The month where we guys have a good excuse to grow our manly moustache’s and beards that started with Fred Flintstone!! But in all

seriousness, Movember is about growing your mous-tache in support of those that are fighting prostate & testicular cancer, and we honoured them this month on our cover by the cover girls wearing pink ( for breast cancer awareness) and the mo’s for prostate & testicu-lar cancer awareness.

Movember has so much happening, all around the Vaal, and there are a few international acts coming to our shores, including Scottish band Simple Minds, which I think will be a great experience if you can get tickets. A lot of year functions will be happening as

NWU Campus PartyMovember is back. In 2013 we are taking to the streets, inspiring change,

motivating others to join the good fight. We are letting the world know Generation Moustache is here.

The last few years have been all about the gentlemen of Movember - the country gentlemen, the modern gentlemen - the one who shares and receives knowledge from his elders. We realise all these gentlemen have something in common they are renegades, they stand united for change. They are part of Generation Moustache. The moustache is their catalyst. The Mo Bros and Mo Sistas of Generation Mous-tache are guided by wolves, protected by snakes. The wolf is the revered symbol of Gen Mo, a warrior. The power of the wolf brings forth instinct, intelligence, an appetite for freedom and an awareness of the importance and power of social con-nections; qualities held true by the Mo Bros and Mo Sistas of Gen Mo. The snake is a symbol of revolution, knowledge, medicine, life and unity. Gen Mo is the sum of all these things, with each tip of every Mo grown being as powerful as that of a snake. Members of Generation Moustache don’t just accept the responsibility, they welcome it. The road less travelled will be their path; they will be united under one flag. They will not stop until they are heard. Crank up the volume, make some noise and fight the good fight. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches around the world. With their “Mo’s” men raise vital funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer and mental health. As an independent global charity, Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.

HOW IT WORKSMovember challenges men to grow a

moustache for the 30-days of November, thereby changing their appearance and the face of men’s health. In October, Mo Bros sign up at Movember.com, and on the 1st of Movember, with a clean-shaven face, start their Mo growing journey. Then for the entire month, these selfless and generous men known as Mo Bros, effectively become walking, talking billboards for 30 days. Through their growing efforts they raise awareness for the often ignored issues of men’s health, by prompting conver-sations wherever they go. Another crucial part of being a Mo Bro is to raise funds for men’s health. Men donate their face, and much like taking part in a run or a walk for charity, ask their family and friends to sponsor their efforts. Movember’s not just for men. The women of Movember, are known as Mo Sistas. They play a vital role in the success of Movember by supporting and encouraging the men in their life to get involved. Mo Sistas also get involved by signing up at Movember.com, and participate by raising funds and awareness themselves. Essentially, Mo Sistas do everything that Mo Bros do, without a Mo. Want to Know MORE? Please take a look at http://za.movember.com. And support this worthy cause!!

I received the latest Van Coke Kartel album entitled Bloed, Sweet & Trane and from the first time it entered my CD player my speakers have not been the same. It holds an intensity throughout with the Van Coke Kar-

tel rock n roll style that South Africans have come to know and love. The album holds something for everyone and incorporates elements of

punk, progressive rock and even a pinch of metal. So for those of you who enjoy a bit of diversity this album is for you.

There is a passion that can be felt in every song and possibly a bit of past experience being leaked through that you can definitely feel. As frontman Francois Van Coke puts it . “The album is a col-lection of songs about the realiza-tion that love, friendship, music and playing music with others make you a part of something even if you are pretty insignificant in the greater scheme of things”

The last song on Bloed, Sweet & Trane entitled ‘Lewendig eindig’ is the perfect example of Rock n roll bands writing ability to pro-duce the greatest acoustic/ballad songs. This song is 1 of my top 10 songs from a local act in 2013.

‘Môregloed’ is a song that shows some of Van Coke’s older style but with a splash of new energy. ‘In Die Agtergrond’ is pure old school Van Coke Kartel portraying the bands original raw rock n roll style.

As a whole the album does not disappoint from the bands last release ‘Wies bang?’ Its no surprise that this album reached number 1 on the Itunes SA chart within the first week.  Van Coke Kartel have groomed a cult following in South Africa and the army is growing worldwide daily.

Jedd Kossew’s guitar sound shines through once again on this album, his abil-ity to produce the perfect guitar sound is an art that many South African bands would pay to learn.

His guitar has more tone than a char-acter on Jersey Shore. He has proven that he knows how to wield an axe with the top guitarists in the country .

Jason Oosthuizen proves yet again why he is the best drummer in South Africa as smashes the kit to pieces on this album.

Francois Van Coke’s vocals are pushed to new extremes on this album and there is definitely a feeling of nostal-gia   resounding with pieces of F0kof-polilisiekar creeping through.

Wynand Myburgh ties it all together with solid hard driven bass.

I have always maintained that music must transcend the language barrier and this album does just that. Whether you are English, Afrikaans, Zula or Chi-nese, go and grab yourself a copy of Bloed, Sweet & Trane. It will not disap-point.

Best tracks on the album: Môregloed, Here Man, Lewendig eindig, Die Dag

I give this album 9 high fives out of 10.

SIMPLE MINDS IN SOUTH AFRICA!This Spring, Simple Mind’s fans in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South

Africa will have the opportunity to see and hear Simple Minds revisit the many chapters of their storied career and more on the  Simple Minds

Greatest Hits Live tour to South Africa. They will be playing 1 & 2 November 2013 at the Big Top Arena at Carnival City in Johannesburg and 3 November at Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino in Cape Town.

Simple Minds are arguably one of the best live bands in the world and over a thirty year career have been responsible for some of the most innovative and enduring anthems in rock music. The band scored a string of hit singles, and are best known for their 1985 hit “Don`t You (Forget About Me)” (UK #7, US #1), from the soundtrack of the John Hughes film The Breakfast Club. Their other more prominent hits include “Alive and Kicking” (UK #7, US #3) and “Belfast Child” (UK #1).

Simple Minds is Scotland`s most successful rock group to date. Having topped America`s Billboard chart, the Glasgow band have achieved six No.1 albums in the UK as well hitting the top spot in countless other territories in-cluding Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.

“One of the things I’m most proud of is that people say to me what Simple Minds are you talking about? The avant-garde, the art-rock, the pop, the ambi-ent, the instrumental group, the political, the folk, the stadium band? We’ve

been on one hell of a journey. To play all those different styles but at the same time be quint-essentially Simple Minds is an amazing thing,” says frontman Jim Kerr.

Simple Minds have been many things to many people: sound scapers, sound-shapers, soundtrack makers, serial chart-toppers. They have influenced acts as diverse as the Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Moby and The Horrors. They have been sampled by Nicky Minaj, David Guetta, Joey Negro and Freddy Bastone. They have provided memorable movie moments for directors Christian Carion (L’Affaire Farewell), Gregor Jordan (The Informers), Cam-eron Crowe (Elizabethtown) and, of course, John Hughes (The Breakfast Club). They have topped the British charts half a dozen times, with the studio albums Sparkle In The Rain (1984), Once Upon A Time (1985) and Street Fighting Years as well as the Ballad Of The Streets EP (both 1989), the concert recording Live In The City Of Light (1987), and the compilation Glit-tering Prize 81/92, and returned to the UK Top Ten with Graffiti Soul, their most recent studio album, in 2009. rAge Expo 2013The ICED* team was kindly invited to cover the rAge Expo 2013 at the

Coca Cola Dome by Nag Magazine who puts this amazing expo to-gether every year. It is the premium expo in South Africa for games,

technology and gadgets; basically it has things that make the little nerd in us jump up and down with excitement!

It also features the biggest annual LAN in South Africa, where some se-rious gamers test their skills against one another. I always enjoy rAge be-cause it has the newest games with the latest in all consoles, for example, they had the new Playstation 4 there, and let me just say, it makes my PS 3 look like it belongs in the stone age!! But what I also enjoy is the vibe of the people, and you get all types of people there, from your gamers, your game card collectors (dungeon & Dragons and others) to guys dressing up

in costumes( I gotta say I think I would great as superman, if he had a beer belly). This year’s rAge expected about 20 000 people and I’m sure they easily beat that, and I was really impressed at how NAG Magazine has grown the rAge experience, it first started in 2002 and 11 years later its bigger and better with more exhibitors and attendees. The first rAge expo had only 200 gamers taking part in their energy fuelled gaming weekend, now there was over 2000!

We enjoyed ourselves so much, unfortunately I had to hit a few of the ICED* crew members over the head, they just couldn’t get their sticky hands off the PS 4 console that had Batman playing on it! So thanks so much NAG Magazine for a brilliant day out in the sun(for a change) and if you missed rAge this year, make sure you don’t repeat your monumental mistake again next year!!

A company called Razer...During our adventures and “nerdgasmz” at this years’ Rage Gaming

Expo, Franc and I had the privilege of chatting to a company called Razer. (and they were pretty cool with us!).

Now to give you a brief background on Razer, please stand by for the fol-lowing Public Service Announcement: -

Razer started in 1998 under a company called Karna LLC. The Karna GM Robert Krakoff then met up with Min-Liang Tan, a hardcore gamer that saw potential in what Karna does and suggested that Karna looks into high pre-cision gaming peripherals, thus the world’s FIRST gaming mouse - The Razer Boomslang - was born. (Note - I said brief history - if you want to read every-thing, visit: www.razerzone.com).

After a slight “going under the radar” period, the phoenix rose again in 2005 and released the “Diamondback” and took on the motto of - “For gam-ers, by gamers”.

You see, kids. Min and Robert had refused to give up on a dream and later in 2005 released the “Copperhead” - the worlds’ FIRST 2 000 dpi mouse, which scooped up a huge load of gaming accolades.

In 2006 Razer set the industry standard, (The standard that is still main-tained today), with the release of the “Tarantula”.

Razer and Microsoft also teamed up for a few products, but later in 2006, Razer launched the “Barracuda” - the worlds’ first 5.1 positional audio system, um really cool headphones, in other words.

From the bit I just typed, you can probably pick up that Razer means business, and there is still a lot about the company that I haven’t mentioned, but Franc the Editor guy only gave me so much space, and ja.....

Anyway, let’s jump to the present........

As we were talking to Razer, we couldn’t help but play and touch some of the Razer “toys”. You could feel the effort and quality that was put into the products. They had a “gaming” tablet called the “Edge Pro” which is a normal “Android” tablet and a gaming tablet with “out of this world” specs! (I was quite amazed at what could all be fit into a tablet). The tablet fits into a giant controller as well..... You can literally walk around and play on a powerful tablet. (It was a drool factor of 10/10). Razer not only makes computer peripherals, but they also do console peripherals. I was playing on the “Sabretooth”, which is their X-Box controller, it’s fully customizable to the user or games’ preferences, it has extra buttons, it’s an all round gamers dream! Franc was taken aback by the “Tarturus”, it’s like a mouse and keyboard in one, you only need one hand to work with it!! It’s ideal for “First Person Shooters” games.

Razer also released the world thinnest gaming laptop, it’s 16mm’s and a BEAST!! (Here’s the specs... Intel i7-4702HQ Quad Core Processor with Hyper Threading 2.2GHz / 3.2GHz (Base/Turbo), 8GB onboard memory (DDL3L-1600Mhz), NVidia Geforce GTX 765M (2GB GDDR5 VRAM, Opti-mus technology), 14.0” HD+ 16:9 Ratio, 1600x900 with LED backlight,

128GB / 256GB / 512GB SATA IIIS SD).Next year, they’ll be releasing a “Big Brother”

to this little bad boy, but we’ll keep you post-ed.......

I can honestly say that every time I pick up a Razer product, I can feel the detail and effort that goes into building the product, you can feel that this was built with pride and passion and by gamers..........and that in itself is why I salute thee gentleman and ladies from Razer!!

Astrology predictions, November 2013November 2013 will be an active month. Having friendly relationships with Ju-

piter, Saturn and Pluto, Mars will be hard-working and productive. That who is determined to achieve something can make significant progress right now!

The event of the month will be Venus’ arrival in Capricorn, where it’ll stay unusually long together with Pluto. The period November 5th 2013 - March 5th 2014 will thus be-come highly representative at the relational level. Emotionally intense, it can be frustrat-ing for those tending to dramatize and fulfilling for the benevolent ones with a sense of humour.

The optimism needs to still be stimulated: try to look at the bright side of things, enjoy the small pleasures of life, go dancing, go to performances, read something cheerful, watch comedies, spend time with happy people, meet new people. Socialize, collabo-rate, open yourself to the others!

van Make Me An Island (6).

What is a mini trampoline class?Mini trampoline exercises are recognized as one of the most ef-

fective and efficient exercises ever devised. It not only improves fitness and tones your body it offers phenomenal health benefits as well.

Some unique health benefits created by mini trampoline exercises:• Rejuvenatesandstrengthenseverycellinyourbody.• Burnsmorecaloriesthanrunning.• Yourcoremusclesworkconstantlywhenyourebound.• Mostimportantlyit’sgreatfuntodo. Why is it so efficient?During normal exercise, gravity affects you on a horizontal plane. However

much you weigh normally, is the same amount that you weigh during tradi-tional exercise, such as running, walking or even step aerobics. You are only opposing gravity on one plane and cannot “make” your body weigh more by opposing gravity on more than one plane. As you jump up and down, the mat surface allows your body to pass the ground and your body has to overcome this change. As you work against the vertical plane, you become heavier and heavier and your body works harder and harder. Gravity contin-ues to overwhelm your body asking it then too overcome it, which in turn makes you work harder. Mini trampoline is the only exercise that utilises gravity acceleration and deceleration on the vertical plane in order to gain health related benefits.

The 5 core benefits of mini trampoline exercise:• Health• Energy• Strength• Aerobic• Relaxation,co-ordinationandbalance.No special or extra skills are required to do a

mini trampoline class. This exercise can be done and enjoyed at any level. Mini trampoline ex-ercise feels exhilarating and energizing and its loads of fun to do.

So why not try one out and feel the experience for yourself?

INTERVIEW WITH A DANCE INSTRUCTOR

We spoke to Elmari Van Wyk about what’s it like to be a Dance In-structor and what it takes to become one.

At what age did you start dancing?I started dancing at the age of 4. I started with ballet but I wasn’t a bal-

lerina so the teacher recommended me to Anita for modern dancing and Eleonor for tap dancing.

What dance style is your favourite? My favourite style is tap dancing. This style takes a lot

of commitment and a lot of practise. You need to have a lot of skill and motivation to keep on practise.

What’s your greatest award achieved in dancing to date?My greatest award must be, winning the World championships in Tap

Dancing when I was in Los Angles 9years ago.How do you Put a dance together?Because I do travel a lot on the road and fly regularly to Dar es Salaam I

always have my mp3 or phone with earphones nearby, and I listen to the piece over and over again. Then I start to imagine moves that will work and repeat the piece of music until I’m comfortable with it. Then I go to my studio and dance all the parts of the dance and then you teach and dem-onstrate the steps with all the facial expressions and the attitude the dance needs to be danced with. A lot of teachers and choreographers write their dances on paper but everything doesn’t always fit or work out the way you plan on paper. So I prefer to literally dance on the music and feel the music and the steps.

Plans for the future? My future plans did change since March this year. I’m part of the best and

most unique educational dance program called boogie beatz, this is great for the little ones. I do have a studio which I call the travelling dance studio because I do give classes in Pretoria as well in Sasolburg and Vanderbjilpark.

I am leaving the country next year in October to start a new studio in Dar es Salaam. This won’t only be a dancing studio but a performing arts acad-emy.

If any one wants to learn how to dance they are more then welcome to contact me and if I cant accommodate them I would recommend them a studio which would be able to accommodate them.

Henley Arms Beer Fest

Ron Howard delivers a brilliant film based on the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, which starts from their Formula 3 days to the very dramatic final race of the 1976 season. The wonderful thing about

this film is that even if you know the history of the rivalry, when you are watching it, it still keeps you on the edge of your seat. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) star as the playboy speedster whose life is dominated with sex, alcohol and racing. Living by the belief “the closer you come to dying, the more you feel alive”. Rush is a fantastic film and I hope that it manages to

race its way into the Best Picture category at next year’s Oscars.

The Great Gatsby - 8.5/10 I didn’t expect much from this movie to be honest with you, but man was I

surprised, the production design, music and the acting was extraordinary. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gats-

by (Leo di Caprio) and his quixotic passion for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan. This love story takes place in a very wealthy community in Long Island during the roaring twenties.

Leo di Carpio has really outdone himself in the last few years and could find himself a serious contender for next year’s Oscar’s best actor award. Let’s

be honest, he deserves one. The Great Gatsby has a great supporting cast and with the music being produced by Jay-Z it really adds to a fantastic watching experi-ence.

FIFA 14 reviewed on a PS3It’s that time of the year where every football fan across the world is

graced with arguably the greates sports game on the planet. The Fifa franchise by ea games has been running since FIFA 98. This years ad-

dition features a new feature in ultimate team mode whereby you trade players with other users, that you meet when you play online. This creates a marketplace type of feel.

They have refreshed the menu system of the interface to give it a bit of a windows 8 type of feel. The physics of the football has changed in what

EA sports call pure shot if you time the strike on the ball correct your player will unleash the perfect strike. There is not much different than FIFA 13. My advice to any FIFA fan is the follow-ing, wait a few months until the price drops.

But if you really want and can afford it wait for sonys ps4 to hit the shelves and play FIFA 14 on the next gen con-sole that has critics around the world salivating at the prospect of FIFA 14 on ps4!! All in all it’s still a great game and if you buy it you won’t be disap-pointed. I give this game a 8/10 score.
