ICCC Business Mission to India 2015
2 ICCC Business Mission to India 2015
ICCC Business Mission to India 2015January 6 – 13, 2015 Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Jaipur & New DelhiCanada India bilateral relations are on upward trajectory for over a decade. Prime Minister Harper
had three and a half years ago made the important observation that as “Canada and India develop
strategic partnership, the contributions of Indo-Canadians will remain invaluable”.
Inspired by this, the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) has been methodically and assidu-
ously working to engage Indo Canadians for enhancing economic partnership between Canada and
India. With trade representing 60 percent of the Canadian economy, increasing trade and commer-
cial relations with India is an important factor in Canada’s economic growth.
The visit of Prime Minister Harper and other federal ministers to India has helped in accelerating eco-
nomic relations with India. According to the Global Market Action Plan released by Minister of Inter-
national Trade some months ago, India is a priority country for Canada for developing long term busi-
ness relations to benefit both the countries.
Food security, education, energy security, infrastructure, information technology, are some of the im-
portant areas where both the countries are exploring joint opportunities for strengthening cooperation.
In this context, the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) released its Report on “Unlocking
the Potential of Canada-India Partnership: Present Initiatives and Future Agenda” a few weeks
ago. The ideas, suggestions and recommendations contained in the Report serve as a guide for its
members and other interested stake holders for making their contribution to the building of sustain-
able, strategic and comprehensive partnership between two countries. The Report also points out
the tremendous opportunities for mutual learning and mutual advantage in a closer Canada-India
partnership involving businesses and governments at all levels.
In the light of the expected conclusion of negotiations on Comprehensive Economic Partnership
Agreement (CEPA), the ICCC is leading a business delegation to India from January 6-13, 2015.
Which coincide the visit of Hon’ble Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of
Foreign Affairs who will be representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs at Vibrant Gujarat 2015.
The organizers have drawn up for members of the delegation a full program, including networking
events, policy discussions and participation in the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2015 in Gandhinagar and
the Vibrant Gujarat 2015. The members of the delegation will also be visiting Jaipur and New Delhi.
Highlights of the Program The program includes meetings and discussions with influential trade bodies, such as the Con-
federation of Indian Industry (CII), India-Canada Business Chamber (ICBC), Federation of Indian
Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI), Federation of Rajasthan Trade and Industry (FOR-
3ICCC Business Mission to India 2015
TI) etc., Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI). In addition, the President of ICCC and
delegates will be meeting the business leaders & decision makers in all the cities. Meetings with
these organizations will take various formats – including conferences, seminars, B2B meetings,
networking receptions, luncheon roundtables and briefings – to offer the delegation valuable op-
portunities for business connections with Indian companies represented by these organizations.
PBD2015-India Convention The members of the delegation will also be attending the annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Gandhi-
nagar which is an important event for networking and information about Indian economic initia-
tives. PBD 2015 will mark the Centenary year celebrations of the return of the greatest ̀ Pravasi` of
all, Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa. The mega event will highlight safe environment for Over-
seas Indians for their contribution to economic growth and social development in India. Members
of the delegation will thus have at the Gandhinagar PBD an informative glimpse into India’s plans
for future development and emerging business opportunities.
Vibrant Gujarat 2015The members of the delegation will also participate in the Vibrant Gujarat convention in Gandhi-
nagar. Canada is a partner country and the country seminar on Canada will be on 11th January
2015. The event is an initiative of Gujarat state for investment promotion and advancement of
economic and social development. The event will provide enormous prospects to the State to
display its strengths, progressive stand, initiatives, investor friendly climate and culture of Gujarat.
Meetings with OfficialsIn PBD and Vibrant Gujarat, delegates will also have opportunity to interact with members of
chambers of commerce of other states also there. In addition to business meetings, delegates will
also have an opportunity to have meetings with Canadian and Indian policy-makers. The ICCC has
arranged meetings with senior political leaders, Indian government representatives, with the rep-
resentatives of the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi, the Consulate of Canada in Ahmed-
abad. ICCC will also be holding related meetings with business and state-level officials to promote
synergistic opportunities in the SMEs and the wider services sector.
The proposed program as well as information on hosting and participating organizations and
description of delegates is given in succeeding pages. For more information, please contact us at
[email protected] or at www.iccconline.org.
