THE PROMISE OF JUSTICE We are in fairly good company when we ask God for justice. Often enough we hear and agree with the lament of the people of Israel asking God why the wicked prosper. However, when we call out for justice, we usually want someone to get his or her comeuppance. God's justice is something other than this, of course. God's justice comprises a wonderful rightness between God and humankind. Today, Jeremiah looks ahead to a time when a just one will sprout from the shorn-off stump of Jesse of the house and family of David. Life was not fair in Jeremiah's time. Israel's kings held the promise of God's fidelity, but it was difficult to see how God's promise could be realized through them. Nevertheless, Jeremiah lifts his voice and announces that the Promised One will come. Luke's Gospel echoes that announcement, and Paul is filled with sturdy encouragement. And so Ad-vent begins with a promise. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

First Sunday of Advent December 2, 2012
I will raise up for David a just shoot; he shall do what is right and just in the land. — Jeremiah 33:15
"Bambinello Sunday" This weekend begins the new season of Advent, when we joyfully and eagerly await the coming of the infant Jesus. This year on Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent, we will adopt a time honored tradition of the Holy Father who in Rome on that Sunday blesses the baby Jesus figures from home manger scenes. The Holy Father calls this Sunday "Bambinello Sunday," and blesses the bambinelli - the babies - in St. Peter's Square. Therefore, on
the third Sunday of Advent, the weekend of December 15th & 16th, we invite you to bring to Mass to be blessed the infant Jesus figure from your home manger scene . We will be doing the blessings at all Masses that weekend, and your participation is welcomed and encouraged as we patiently await the celebration of the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus. On the third Sunday we will also provide, in the bulletin and on our website, a family blessing to be used in the home in case you forget your infant Jesus figure. Then, on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, both in the bulletin and on our website, we will provide a family blessing to be used on Christmas day when you place your baby Jesus figure in your manger. We are very happy to share with you this tradition of the Holy Fathers in Rome, and invite you to adopt this as a family tradition in your home.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JOY MINISTRIES!!
This past Thanksgiving marked our one year anniversary in helping JOY Min-
istries in feeding the homeless. In that year we have made over 720 sand-
wiches, given out toilet articles, blankets, back packs, clothing, as well as
hundreds of hugs! I would like to thank Ellie Kurzawa for letting us to join
with her and a HUGE thank you to Joanne Jordan and Donna Jackson along
with their families who so tirelessly call volunteers each month for us and
have taken this as a personal ministry. Thank you too to all of the organiza-
tions who have donated money to us as well. This Thanksgiving the cate-
chist’s and their families cooked a hot meal of ham, veggies, and mac n
cheese for the folks and delivered it to the streets. What an awesome experi-
ence that was for everyone.
If you are interested in helping feed the homeless please contact Philomena
Johnson in the Faith Formation Office @ 813-885-7861 for information.

The Rite of Welcoming
On November 11th, our parish celebrated with 29 indi-viduals who publically presented themselves at four of the Sunday Masses asking for our prayers and support as they discern their journey into our Catholic faith. Some are desiring baptism in our Catholic Church; others are coming from another Christian faith, prepar-ing for full initiation into our church through the Sacra-ments of Eucharist and Confirmation. These individuals are a gift to our parish -we stand with them, we pray for them, Oh holy child of God!
Saturday, December 8th
