Unique Student ID under ICAR-Education Portal (EKTA)
In the EKTA (Eakikrit Krishishiksha Takniki Ayaam) initiative, it is proposed to assign
unique student ID for all the students enrolled in universities of NARES. Student Id is
given in any system to ensure the uniqueness corresponding to the student record.
Student ID number formula ensures that each of the student has a unique number
associated with their name throughout their carrier in NARES system. It is proposed
to generate Unique Student ID (USID) code with the 15 Character combinations
(Alpha numeric code) to uniquely identify the student details. USID code will be
unique for all students throughout all agriculture universities under NARES system.
USID code will be generated considering following parameters.

Sciences, Lakhipur
The proposed combination of Student Identification is explained in detail below:
1. Mode of Admission
Mode of admission will be denoted by 1 character either I or U, I stands for ICAR, U
stands for University. This 1 character will help in recognizing the mode of
admission of student in University whether student is admitted through ICAR or
University Entrance examination.
e.g. Student admitted through ICAR will be set to I, while student admitted directly
in University will have U.
2. Year of Admission
Year of Admission is two (2) digit code to contains only last two digits of the year. It
would be like 17 for 2017, 16 for 2016.
3. State CodeState Code is two (2) digit alphabetic code e.g. DL for Delhi, PB for Punjab etc.
4. University Code
University Code is 2 digit code assigned to each university, which will uniquely
identify the university along with state code throughout the NARES system. Two (2)
digit number will be able to accommodate to maximum of 99 universities.
Complete list of University codes is available at Annexure-1.
5. Institute /College Code
Institute /College Code is 3 digit code assigned to each Institute /College, which will
uniquely identify the Institute /College along with university and state code
throughout the NARES system. Three (3) digit number will be able to accommodate
to maximum of 999 colleges per university. e.g.
001- College of Food Science and Technology, Pulipendula (ANGRAU, Hyderabad)
003-College of Veterinary Science, Lakhipur (AAU, Jorhat)
6. Course Level
Course Level is one English Alphabet code which will define the type of course.
Example: Under graduate, Masters, Doctorate, Diploma, or in some certificate
course.
e.g. Bachelor –B, Masters – M and Doctorate- D, Diploma-P, Certificate-C etc.
Complete list of Course Level and their codes is available at Annexure-2 (I).
7. Course Stream
Course stream will identify the field of study for student at a particular course level.
This is a 1 Character identifier which distinguishes various course streams being
2
studied by students. It can have maximum of 26 Course streams mapped to each
English Alphabet.
e.g. A- Agriculture, H- Horticulture, F- Fisheries etc.
Complete list of all course streams is available at Annexure-2 (II).
8. Three (3) Digit Unique Number
Three (3) digit codes will comprise of sequential number code for students in every
college. Each college can have a maximum of 999 students at each level/stream of
course per year e.g. 001,002,003 etc.
First 3 digits denote college code and last 3 digits denote unique student ID
generated.
001- College of Food Science and Technology, Pulipendula (ANGRAU, Hyderabad)
003-College of Veterinary Science, Lakhipur (AAU, Jorhat)
Complete list of Universities and Colleges with their Codes is available at Annexure-

How to Generate USID
Mainly three modes are suggested for generation of USID considering the below
mentioned points. All these modes can be used by any University as per their
convenience.
1. USID API Mode: In this mode of Operation, each university has to integrate the
USID APIs in their website or University Management System. University will
send request to API at central portal at ICAR Data Center with the specified
attributes for each student, in real time. Newly generated USID will be sent in
response which will be incorporated in their records. The system will work in the
same way as online payment gateway works. Detailed manual and API interface
will be provided for integration of APIs in the websites developed using
ASP.NET, PHP, JSP and ASP.NET MVC architectures.2. Batch Mode: Batch mode will help university generate USID for a set of
students in one go. University can upload the Excel file in specified format at
EKTA portal and portal will provide generated excel file with uniquely generated
USID.3. Web Mode: In web mode, a web form will be provided in EKTA portal, where
university staff will enter student details in a web form and USID will be
generated. This can be particularly used for individual candidates. This mode of
USID generation is best suited when number of USIDs to be generated is less
and technical competency is not available to leverage the benefits of above two
modes.Attributes for USID Generation1. Name of Student
3
2. Date of Birth (DD/MM/YYYY)3. Gender (M / F)4. Reservation Category (GN /OBC/ SC/ST )5. Physically Challenged (Yes / No)6. Year of Admission (YYYY)7. Mode of Admission (I / U)8. University Code (01-99). Refer Annexure-1 for Codes9. College Code (3 Digit number as given in Annexure -4)10. State Code (SS) as per transport authority.11. Course Level (B- Bachelor, M-Masters,D-Doctoral etc.)12. Course Stream (A- Agriculture, H- Horticulture, F-Fisheries etc.)13. Email Id14. Mobile (10 Digit Numeric)15. Nationality16. Blood Group (Optional)17. Address18. Admission Date (DD/MM/YYYY)19. Aadhar Number (12 Digit Numeric)20. Three (3 ) digit Student Number (To be generated automatically in our system). All these fields are minimal for various Student Management Systems being used
across Universities and ICAR organizations. Annexure- I contains the list of universities
and constituent colleges which can be updated periodically. Also, the coding schemes for the
affiliated colleges will be released separately on demand of the concerned university.USID generation schemes, mode of generation of USID, along with the codes given to
universities and constituent colleges are submitted for the approval of the competent
authority. Once approved, allotment of USID will be mandatory requirement for all the
universities, constituent and affiliated colleges.
