GENERAL INFORMATION

Ibiza is a mediterranean island 79 kilometers away from Valencia´s coast, in

Spain. It is Balearic island´s third largest, an

autonomous community of Spain. It has got 125053

inhabitants and it is a part of a group of the western

Balearic archipelago called “Pine islands” composed of itself and Formentera. Ibiza

´s climated is Mediterranean and

influenced of Sahara desert with temperature of 17ºC

and scarces rainfalls. It has milder winters and sligtly

cooler summers than Majorca

– Portal of Ses Taules: is the main entrance door to the walled city or Dalt Vila. It is Renaissance style.

THE CAHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS

– The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Snows: located in Dalt Vila. It is a cathedral built in the thirteenth century. It is Gothic but the ship is Baroque. In the seventeenth century it was remoled so also has works of art in Renaissance style interior. This cathedral pays homage Santa Maria Maggiore and the Virgin of the Snows, because they are the two festivals were closed to 8 of August, when Catalans conquered Ibiza, they wanted to build a cathedral to commemorate this event. You can visit the Museum of the Sacristy.

– The necropolis Puig of Molins: this museum was built by the Phoenicians in the seventh century J.C

Isidor Macabich was apriest who was born inIbiza on 10 September

1883, in a fairly affluentfamily.

Narcis Puget Viñas(1874-1960) was

a photographer and painter andbecame interested in landscapes

ofIbiza and Formentera, who

managedto translated into living works ofimpressionist light. Besides thefirst artist of Pine was a generalrecognition that, soon became areference for Ibiza andFormentera´s painters of thetwentieth century.

The cousine is based on Mediterranean´s typical products:mainly seafood (cod, octpus, squid…), cooked vegetables,

garlic´s sauce, casseroles, rice, fish stw, wrasing rajadaraya (that is a casserole)…

The Ibiza´s most typical dishes are: pages sofrit (with lamb,chicken, potatoes, sausage, chopped almonds)
