Civil service exams are no longer thorny maze but downy flower beds. They are gorgeous vegetation
to those who are properly guided and rightly tutored. The civil service examination is a nationwide
competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Successful aspirants are
selected to serve in the elite IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS and allied central administrative services. The exam is
of three phases – preliminary exam consisting of 2 objective type papers [General studies paper I and
General studies paper II –popularly known as civil Service Aptitude Test or CSAT] and a Main exam
consisting of 9 papers of essay type followed by a personality test (interview).
It consists of two papers in Objective pattern
Paper 1 is general studies worthing 200 marks and Paper 2 is general studies, popularly known as CSAT
(Civil Service Aptitude Test) worthing 200 marks.
Paper I tests the candidate’s knowledge on current events, history of India and Indian National
movement, Indian and world geography, Indian politics, Panchayat Raj system and governance,
economic and social development, environmental ecology, biodiversity, climate change, general
science, art and culture.
Paper II tests candidate’s skills in comprehension. Interpersonal and communication skills, logical
reasoning, analytical ability, decision making, problem solving, basic numeracy, data interpretation,
English language comprehension skills and mental ability
This exam consists of a written exam and an interview. The written exam consists of nine papers, two
qualifying and seven rankings in nature. The range of questions varies from just one mark to sixty marks,
20 to 600 words answers. Candidates who pass qualifying papers are ranked according to marks and a
selected number of candidates are called for interview or personality test at the discretion of the
commission.

CIVIL SERVICES NEW MAINS FORMAT
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a national level examination for admission to various graduate
and post graduate medical courses (MBBS, MD, MS) and dental courses (BDS,MDS) in government or
private medical colleges and dental colleges. Till 2018, this exam was conducted by CBSE and from 2019
onwards, National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the NEET exam. NEET-UG is a singke entrance test
for admission to more than 66,000 MBBS and BDS seats across India.
AIIMS and JIPMER institutes are outside the NEET’s purview, as these institutes were set up by separate
laws.
N E E T - U G
KEAM(Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical) is an entrance exmination series for admissions to various
professional degree courses in the state of Kerala and is conducted by Commissioner of Entrance
Examination(CEE). KEAM is probably the only entrance test series in India that is conducted by a State
Government directly. The entrance exam is in Two parts.Part-1 is Mathematics and Part-2 is physics &
Chemistry.The CEE will conduct entrance test for admissions to Engineering courses only, and will not
conduct any entrance test for admission to B.Arch course or Medical & allied courses. However, candidates
seeking admission to B.arch course should compulsorily appear for and qualify in the National Aptitude
Test in Architecture(NATA). Candidates seeking admission to any of the Medical & allied courses should
compulsorily appear for and qualify in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-under graduate
(NEET-UG).
K E A M
Candidates desirous of admission to technical institutions like National Institute of
Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and such other tech institutions across the country
have to appear for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). It is mandatory to take JEE (Main & Advanced)
exams to get admission to centrally funded technical institutions (CFTI). Those who qualify in the Main
exam are eligible for Advanced exam. The exams are of objective pattern. JEE Advanced is deemed
internationally to be one of the most challenging tests.
