We had a lecture about olive trees on mid-October. The lecturer is Mr. Matticari who is living in Ito City. His families are taking care of olive trees and olive oil making for many years in Italy. He was talking in English and his wife translated it into Japanese for the audience. He was talking about varieties of olives, the time to plant, the suitable location, the way of planting, how to prune and care, olive oil which are sold in Japan and so on.. Many audiences took a note and asked questions. Since the lecture got really lively, the scheduled time has passed,. Thank you Mr. Matticari!
Taking part in the Hanagasa Festival was actually my first time in doing any kind of dancing at a traditional Japanese festival. I wasn’ t sure what to expect, and I was worried about whether I would be able to keep up with the other dancers in the parade. Because of that, I was happy to findthat the dance itself was fairly simple to learn and memorize. After practicing for 15 minutes, all of us had it down! Once we started the actual dance, however, I was surprised that each group was doing a different variation of it. I had imagined that we would all be doing the exact same dance, so it was interesting seeing all of the different styles and twists that everyone had put on it. This actually made the entire experience less nerve-wracking, as there was not a lot of pressure to have everything perfect, and dance exactly like the others around me.It was great to see how the entire Ito community pulled together for this dance festival.Looking around at all of the groups dancing around me, I could really feel their love for Ito and for upholding old traditions like the Hanagasa Festival. I hope that more foreign travelers will learn about Ito, and will be able to take part in such fun events in the future! Thank you!
