Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mill established in 1995, is a major producer of anew generation' high strength reinforcement bars. The unit is located in Sohar Industrial

Estate, Sultanate of Oman, having easy access to both Oman and UAE Markets. The upgraded modern rolling mill has an annual capacity of 300,000 MT with product mix of 8 to 32 mm. The mill produces HIGH STRENGTH RE INFORCEMENT REBAR of international quality in various

specification like BS, ASTM and SASO. The plant was built in technical collaboration with IDC, the best amongst TURKISH producers and one of the leading reinforcement rebar exporters.

Sharq Sohar Steel has embarked upon Total Quality Man-

agement (TOM) with customer satisfaction as the main objective. A Major step in this direction is ISO 9001:2008 and CARES certification

There are three production units associated with this Industrial Establishment namely;

1) Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mills for making rebars

2) Sohar Steel for making steel billets

3) MECI for making weld mesh & Epoxy coated bars

Corrosion Resistance Properties

The corrosion resistance properties of Temperit bar show definite improvement over conventional CTD rebars due to one or more of the following reasons:-

a) lower precentage of elements such as C, S, P, N etc.

b) Cleaner steel with very low rating of non-metalic inclusions.

C) Presence of martensitic layer at the outside surface.

d) Formation of adherent scale film due to water quenching during rolling.

The temperit process eliminates all undesirable effects of conven-tional cold twisted deformed bars. Thus higher strength is attained even with lower carbon content.

Quality Control

iarq Sohar is committed to produce and supply bar prod-cts as per international standards like BS / SASO / ASTM.

roduct testing :-

he products are tested in regular intervals during produc-on.

Random samples are taken every 15 minutes for checking cross section, visual defects and sectional weight.

For every 20 tons (30 minutes) one sample is taken for testing the mechanical properties like Yield Strength, Tensile strength, Elongation and Bend / Re-bend.

The quality control lab is equipped with state of the art facilities like;

Computer controlled Tensile testing machine (Zwick, ermany) . The software Zwick Test Xpert" provides all the iechanical properties including Engineering stress-strain rve on the PC monitor.

OSCAM bending machine :- This machine, consisting of an -built electronic programmer, is used for bending and bending of the bar for bend test.

CD Spectrometer (Bruker, Germany) for chemical analysis

Sohar Steel LLC

Sohar Steel LLC, the Steel Melt Shop, is the backward Integration of the Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mills LLC. Sohar Steel is located in 250,000 square meter area in Sohar Industrial Port Company and very near to Port of Sohar, the emerging Sea

Port in the Gulf Region.

The plant is capable of producing 250,000 MT of Steel Billets annually and is indented for consumption of Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mills LLC. The plant infrastructure is provided for the future capacity up gradation to 500,000 MT per

year. The present plant facilities include Ultra High Power (UHP) Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) with 36 MT capacity, powered by 30 MVA transformer and Ladle Furnace (LF) of 5 MVA power. The 3 strand Caster of 6 meter radius can cast billet sizes of 100, 120 and 130 mm Square. Hydraulic shear is used for the automatic cutting of

billets. The plant is capable of receiving scrap, DRI and HBI as raw material.

Sohar Steel is equipped with modernized Wet Lab facilities and most modern type Spectrometer through which strict quality control measures are practiced to

achieve the specified product quality standards.

Sohar Steel believes in the protection of the environment and conservation of nature and consider it as one of the prime responsibility. Best Available Dust collec-tion technology is adopted to limit the emission within the international standards. Continuous efforts are on to keep the plant green, clean and environmental

friendly.

Middle East Conversion Industries L.L.0 (MECI) is another unit of SSSRM consisting of an EPDXY COATING PLANT (ECP) and a WELD MESH PLANT (WMP)

MECl/ ECP

For doing Epoxy coating of steel rebars supplied by either SSSRM or other suppliers.

The plant is supplied by Travelbeton S.A. of Italy, manufactured by Carlo Banfi S.p.A., Elind S.p.A.

and ZEUS of Italy. The capacity of the plant is about 2500 tons per month depending on the product mix.

Epoxy coated rebars Size 8mm to 32 mm as per ASTM 775M

Fusion bonded epoxy coating.

Protection from corrosion and rusting

Uses High speed shot blasting machine for achiev-ing better surface cleanliness and surface texture for input bars.

Widely used by construction industry in reinforced concrete structures for specific applica-tions.

Bundles are wrapped in poly ethylene cover for better shielding.

Middle East Conversion Industries LLC -WMP

MECl/WMP

For producing welded steel mesh.

MECI - WMP manufactures welded steel fabric (Mesh) conforming to the British standards BS 4483:2005 for reinforced concrete using state-of-art technology and machinery.

The machinery was supplied by Ws Teurema of Spain (cold ribbing mill) and CABR of China( Welding unit). The capacity of the plant is about 2000 tons of weld mesh and Ribbed/ plain wire rods together of customer required lengths to a max of 12 Metre.
