Once upon a time there was a king Boru who had three sons, Hero, who

and the most beautiful women the world have ever seen for daughternamed Verina . They lived in The Land Of The Peace, where everything

Boru: Hero, Amory and Beau. I love you my children. Listen to me. Letyour sister marry very first man who came to ask her in marriage. Do thisor dread my curse!

Soon after that, Boru died. Some time after his death here came one nighta great knocking at the gate; the whole palace shook, and outside washeard a great noise of squeaking, singing, and shouting,. The people in thepalace were very much frightened, so that they shook for fear, when all atonce someone shouted from the outside:

As the sister passed over the threshold everyone in the palace fell to theground from fear, so vivid was the lightning and loud the claps of thunder. The whole sky rumbled, so that the whole palace shook as if about to fall.

All this however passed over, and soon after the day dawned; when it grewlight enough, the brothers went to see if any trace was left of the mightypower to whom they had given their sister, so that they might be able totrace the road by which it had gone. There was, however, nothing whichthey could either see or hear.

Beau: It is really very wonderful what has happened to our sister! We haveno news - no trace of them! We do not know where they are gone, norwhom they have married!

Hero: It was our father’s will, but I am afraid for Verina. Let’s go find her.

Amory: I’ll take money for our journey.

SCENE II

WE LOST HERO?!

Coming to a small lake Beau, Amory and Hero resolved to rest there thatnight; and having made a fire they placed their things near it, and preparedto sleep.

Hero: This night I will keep guard whilst you sleep!

So the two others fell asleep, and Hero remained watching. At some point

the fire had quite gone out, so he - having nothing there with which he

could light the fire, and not wishing to awaken his brothers from their deep

slumbers - stepped a little way into the forest, with the hope of seeing

something with which he might rekindle the fire. There was, however, no

trace of any fire anywhere. At last, in his search, he climbed up a very high

tree, and, having reached the top, looked about on all sides. After muchlooking he thought he saw the glare of a fire not very far off. So he came

down from the tree and went in the direction in which he had seen the fire,

in order to get some brand with which he might again light the fire. He

walked very far on this errand, and though the glare seemed always near

him, it was a very long time before he reached it. Suddenly, however, he

came upon a cave, and in the cave a great fire was burning. Round it sat

nine giants, and two men were being roasted, one on each side of the fire.

Besides that, there stood upon the fire a great kettle full of the limbs of

men ready to be cooked. When Hero saw that, he was terrified and would

gladly have gone back, but it was no longer possible.

Hero: Good evening, my dear comrades! I have been a very long time insearch of you!

Giants: Welcome! if thou art of our company!

Hero: I shall remain yours forever, and would give my life for your sake!

Giants: Eh! f you intend to be one of us, you know, you must also eat man's flesh, and go out with us in search of prey? Come, sit with us.

Hero had no choice. He did what they told him. The whole company, sittinground the fire, took meat out of the kettle and began to eat. Heropretended to eat, also, but instead of eating he always threw the meatbehind him, and thus deceived them. Giants saw that Hero is cheating sothey started speaking in their own language how can they kill the prince.

1st Giant: Nisam ni mislio da stvarno jede.

2nd Giant: Ubij stoku, daj da ga pojedemo odmah sad, odmah!

3rd Giant: Na razanj!

What Giants didn’t knew is that the prince could understand them.

HERO’S FLASHBACK

10 years earlier

Hero is 10 years old. He went horse riding, but he lost in the wood. He heardcrying and shouting for help so he went to see what is going on. In the middle ofthe fire there was a snake.

Snake: Hey, you! Prince! Help me! Help me! Save me, I’ll do whatever you want!

Hero: You can speak?

Snake: I’ll explain everything, just get me out of here.

Hero: You’re a snake! How can I know that you wouldn’t bite me?

Snake: I’m not just a snake! I’m also the prince just as you are! My father willgive you whatever you want if you help me! I’m his only son!

So Hero helped the snake.

Snake: Thank you so much. I promised you something, and of course I will keepmy promise. Come with me to my kingdom. My father can give you gold, silver, diamonds, everything you like, but you ask for the secret language. You couldunderstand, animals, giants, flowers, everything you want. Ask him for that, andyou’ll be a happy man.

HERO IS A HERO

Of course that Hero could understand the Giants. He knew that they knew whathe was doing and he knew that they are preparing to cook him. Giants are stupidcreatures. If you sing to them, they can fall asleep quickly.

Hero: My dear friends, I made a mistake. I’m a human and there is no way that Ican eat the same flash as mine. I know that I will die. Before I die, show respectand let me have the last few words.

Giants: You can have it. It was your choice. Speak fast, we are hungry.

So Hero started singing.Hero:  Sleep now sleep

And so fade sorrowSleep beloved sleep

Sleep now sleepAfar tomorrow

Sleep beloved sleepYou are home this night

Home of winterYour home of autumn

Summer and springYou are home this night

Lasting homeEternal home

Your eternal home

The Giants fall asleep instantly. Hero run away quickly as possible. He traveledfor 2 weeks but he couldn’t find his brothers. They weren’t at the same place heleft them. He was desperate. Hero decided to continue his travels alone.

Hero: I was sure that they will wait for me. Are they alive? Are they searching forme? I just make problems. I lost my sister, and I lost myself. I deserve to die. The

world can be a better place without me. A hero? What kind of hero am I?So he decided to kill himself. With this intention he climbed to the top of a highmountain, that he might throw himself from its summit; for he wished that evenhis bones might never be found. Having arrived at the top of the mountain, hesaw a sharp rock jutting out from one side of it, and was climbing up to throwhimself from it, when he heard a voice behind him calling.

SCENE IV

BEAU AND ARMONY

THE LAND OF THE DREAMS

The morning when Beau and Armony found out that Hero is gone

Beau: Hero is gone!

Armony: Maybe he just went to find something to eat.

So they waited and waited for 2 days for him, but of course, he didn’t showup.

Armony: Our little brother is gone! First our sister and now our brother, ohwhat a misery!

Beau: He just makes problems. He lost our sister, everything is his fault.

Armony: Stop saying that! He was just trying to be loyal to out father! Wehave to find him!

Beau: I’m sorry, I’m worried about him of course. I don’t know what are wegoing to do. His horse is still here… Let’s go, I hope that he is alive.

Armony: He is! He must be! Oh, Hero, be a hero!

So they traveled for 5 days and came to a land named The Land Of The Dreams

The king named Cassander ruled this land. He let them stay only if theywould tell him what they dreamed if he would ask them. They agreed andspend two nights in his kingdom without any question. On the third daymorning, Cassander asked them.

Cassander: Well, what have you dreamt?

Armony: I dreamt that I should be the heir to your throne.

Cassander laughed at this because he thought that Armony just tried toentertain him.

Cassander: You are funny, sir Armony! What about you, Beau?

Page 9: I will find you. 4545

8/4/2019 I will find you. 4545

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/i-will-find-you-4545 9/23

Beau : I dreamt that I was going to wash my hands, and that my brother, held the basin, whilst the queen, held fine towels for me to dry my handswith, and your majesty's self poured water over them from a golden ewer.

Cassander: What? I - the king - pour water over the hands of you! Go

away this instant out of my palace, and out of my kingdom!

Armony: No! Brother! I’m coming with you!

Beau: Brother, stay. There are going to be chances for you to find outabout Hero and our sister. I promise we will meet again. Farawell.

So Beau was obliged to wander up and down in different countries, untilone day, being in a large forest, he saw a cave, and entered it to rest. There, to his great surprise and joy, he found a large kettle full of Indiancorn boiling over a fire and, being exceedingly hungry, began to help

himself to the corn. In this way he went on until he was shocked to see hehad eaten up nearly all the maize, and then, being afraid some mischiefwould come of it, he looked about for a place in which to hide himself. Atthis moment, however, a great noise was heard at the cave-mouth, and hehad only time to hide himself in a dark corner before a blind old womanentered, riding on a great goat and driving a number of goats beforehim. The old woman rode straight up to the kettle, but as soon as she foundthat the corn was nearly all gone, she began to suspect someone wasthere, and groped about the cave until he caught hold of the prince.

Old woman: Who are you?

Beau: I am a poor, homeless wanderer about the world, and have comenow to beg you to be good enough to receive me.

Old woman: Well, why not? I shall at least have someone to mind my cornwhilst I am out with my goats in the forest.

A week later

Old woman: I think you shall take out the goats today, and I will stay athome to mind the corn. Mind only one thing! There are nine differentmountains, and you can let the goats go freely over eight of them, but youmust on no account go on the ninth. The Vilas (fairies) live there, and theywill certainly put out your eyes as they have put out mine, if you venture ontheir mountain.

Beau: Thank you.

Page 10: I will find you. 4545

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/i-will-find-you-4545 10/23

Following the goats, he had passed over all the mountains to the eighth, and from this he could see the ninth mountain, and could not resist thetemptation he felt to go upon it. Hardly had he stepped on the ninthmountain before the fairies surrounded him, and prepared to put out hiseyes.

Beau: Dear Vilas, why take this sin on your heads? Better let us make a

bargain, that if you spring over a tree that I will place ready to jump over,

you shall put out my eyes, and I will not blame you!

The Vilas: We will let you to try that.

Beau went and brought a large tree, which he cleft down the middle almost

to the root; this done, he placed a wedge to keep the two halves of the

trunk open a little. When it was fixed upright, he himself first jumped over it.

Beau: Now it’s your turn.

One Vila attempted to spring over, but the same moment the prince

knocked the wedge out, and the trunk closing, at once held the Vila fast.

Then all the other fairies were alarmed, and begged him to open the trunk

and let their sister free, promising, in return, to give him anything he might

ask.

Beau: I want nothing except to keep my own eyes, and to restore eyesight

to that poor old woman.

The Vilas: Take this herb and lay it over her eyes.

So Beau took a herb and set the fairy free and then rode back on the goat

to the cave, driving the other goats before him. When he arrived there he

placed at once the herb on the old woman's eyes, her eyesight came back

instantly.

Next morning the old man, before he drove out his goats, gave the prince

the keys of eight closets in the cave, but warned him on no account toopen the ninth closet, although the key hung directly over the door. Then

he went out, telling the prince to take good care that the corn was ready for

their suppers.

Left alone in the cave, the young man began to wonder what might be in

the ninth closet, and at last he could not resist the temptation to take down

Page 11: I will find you. 4545

the key and open the door to look in.

What was his surprise to see there a golden horse, with a golden

greyhound beside him, and near them a golden hen and golden chickens

were busy picking up golden millet-seeds.

The young prince gazed at them for some time, admiring their beauty.

Beau: Friend, I think we had better leave this place before the old woman

comes back again

Golden horse: I am quite willing to go away, only you must take heed to

what I am going to tell. Go and find linen cloth enough to spread over the

stones at the mouth of the cave, for if the old woman hears the ring of my

hoofs she will be certain to kill you. Then you must take with you a little

stone and a drop of water, the moment I tell you to throw them down youmust obey me quickly, or you are lost.

The prince did everything that the golden horse had ordered him, and then, taking up the golden hen with her chickens in a bag, he placed it under hisarm, and mounted the horse and rode quickly out of the cave, leading withhim, in a leash, the golden greyhound. But the moment they were in theopen air the old woman, although she was very far off, tending his goatson a distant mountain, heard the clang of the golden hoofs.

Old woman: They have run away. Let us follow them at once. They were behind the golden horse and Beau quickly.

Golden horse: Throw now the little stone!

The moment the prince had thrown it down, a high rocky mountain rose upbetween him and the old woman, and before the goat had climbed over itthe golden horse had gained much ground. Very soon, however, the oldwoman was so nearly catching them.

Golden horse: Throw, now, the drop of water!

The prince obeyed instantly, and immediately saw a broad river flowingbetween him and his pursuer.

Page 12: I will find you. 4545

Old woman: Now I see I cannot catch you, so you may keep what youhave taken. But you will do wisely to listen to my counsel. People will besure to kill you for the sake of your golden horse, so you had better buy atonce a donkey, and take the hide to cover your horse. And do the samewith your golden greyhound.

Beau lost no time in attending to his advice, and covered with donkey-hidehis golden horse and his golden hound.

After travelling a long time Beau came unawares to the kingdom. There he

heard that the king had had a ditch - three hundred yards wide and four

hundred yards deep - dug, and had proclaimed that whosoever should

leap his horse over it, should have the princess, his stepdaughter, for wife.

Beau: I will do it.

So he did it.

Cassander: There is no way I’m giving my beautiful diamond to this… thishomeless trash. Poorly dressed monkey thinks that he can have mybeautiful flower! Only after my dead body! Take him to the dungeon, thedeepest one, together with his stupid donkey and the dog.

Next morning the king sent some of his servants to see if the man was stillliving, and these soon ran back to him, full of wonder, and told him that

they had found in the dungeon, instead of a poor man and his donkey, ayoung man, beautifully dressed, a golden horse, a golden greyhound, anda golden hen, surrounded by golden chickens, which were picking upgolden millet-seeds from the ground.

Cassander: That must be some powerful prince.

So he ordered the queen, and the princes, and Amory, to prepare all things

for the stranger to wash his hands. Then he went down himself into the

dungeon, and led the prince up with much courtesy, desiring thus to make

amends for the past ill-treatment.

The king himself took a golden ewer full of water and poured some over

the prince's hands, whilst Amory held the basin under them, and the queen

held out fine towels to dry them on.

Beau: Now, my dream is fulfilled.

They all at once recognised him, and were very glad to see him once againamongst them.

Cassander: Beau… If I only knew… You can have my daughter and mykingdom, I am so sorry my son.

Amory: Brother! My dear brother!

Beau: Cassander, I will take your daughter, but you can have yourkingdom. What is done it is done. Do not be sorry. Armony! My littlebrother! Did you found out about our brother and sister?

Armony: I did. Cassander helped me. This is how it happened. This isBayard, Cassander’s servant.

Bayard: Hello, sir Beau, My name is Bayard. I took my master and sirArmony to my father. He is the king of future. He told us that he saw a tree

with golden apples and your sister under it. We knew right away that hetalks about The Land Of The Golden Apples.

Beau: So what are we waiting for? Bring us the horses! I’ll marry thisbeautiful woman, and we can leave!

Laura: My name is Laura, my master.

Beau: From now on, you are my love. Let’s go.

SCENE II

YOU THOUGHT HERO IS GOING TO KILL HIMSELF? NO WAY! HERO IS A HERO!!!

Hero: Who are you that speak to me? Let me see you. When you knowhow miserable I am, you will not prevent my killing myself

Old man: I know all about you. But listen! Do you see that high hill? Anddo you see the multitude of marble blocks which are on it? On the summitof that hill there is an old woman with golden hair, who sits night and day

on that very spot, and holds a bird in her bosom. Whoever can get this birdinto his hands will be the happiest man in the world. But be careful. If youare willing to try to get the bird, you must take the old woman by her hairbefore she sees you. If she sees you before you catch her by her hair, youwill be changed into a stone on the spot. Thus it happened to all thoseyoung men you see standing there, as if they were blocks of marble.

Hero: It is all one to me whether I die here or there. If I succeed, so muchthe better for me; if I fail, I can but die as I had resolved.

So he went up the hill. When he arrived near the old woman he walked

very cautiously towards her, hoping to reach her unseen; for, luckily, theold woman was lying with her back towards him, sunning herself, andplaying with the bird. When near enough he sprang suddenly and caughther by the hair. Then the old woman cried out, so that the whole hill shookas with a great earthquake; but Hero held fast by her hair.

Old woman: What do you desire from me?

Hero: That you should give me the bird in your bosom, and that you callback to life all these Christian souls.

The old woman consented, and gave him the bird. Then from her mouthshe breathed a blue wind towards the men of stone, and immediately they

again became alive. Hero, having the bird in his hands, was so rejoiced

that he began to kiss it; and as he kissed it the bird was transformed into a

most beautiful maiden.

Page 15: I will find you. 4545

This girl the enchantress had turned into a bird, in order that she mightallure the young men to her. The girl pleased Hero exceedingly, and hetook her with him.

Bruja: My name is Bruja.I know who you are, I am here to help you.

Hero: You will be my wife.

Bruja:  And you’ll be my husband. This is the magic stick. You should haveit. It will do everything you want. It will tell you where is your sister.

So Hero touched the stick, and it showed him a map where his sister is. Itwas a tree, a golden tree with his sister and his brothers under it.

Hero: It showed me my brothers too.

Bruja: It will do anything for you. So do I.

As they were travelling they came to a great river, and could find no placeby which they could pass over; so the king's son touched the surface of theriver with his stick, and the water divided, so that a dry path lay beforethem, and they were able to cross over the river dryshod. A little fartherthey came to a herd of wolves, and the wolves attacked them, and seemedabout to tear them to pieces; but the prince struck at them with his stick, and one by one the wolves were turned into ants.

Hero: Thank you.

SCENE V

THE LAND OF THE GOLDEN APPLES

Beau, his wife and Armony are in front of the castle.

Beau: The sun brought us answers. We are here.

Armony: Almost brother.

Now, before the palace there was a golden apple-tree, which in one andthe same night blossomed, bore* fruit, and lost all its fruit, though no onecould tell who took the apples. The king named Farell ruled this land.

Farell: Hello, good princes. What brought you here?

Beau: The king of future told us that under your apple tree our sisterstands.

Farell: If your sister is under that tree, than she must be a thief.

Armony: A thief?

Farell: Every night someone steals the apples.

Beau: It couldn’t be our sister.

So they told them his story.

Farell: I didn’t hear anything about your sister or your brother.

Beau: You think the king of future was wrong?

Farell: Than your sister is a thief!

Beau: Don’t you dare call my sister thief!

Armony: Stop fighting. We will never find out if you fight. Calm down. I willspend the night under that tree.

So Armony went under the tree. In the morning, nine beautiful seagullscame and eight of them settled on its branches, but the ninth alighted nearhim and turned instantly into a beautiful girl - so beautiful, indeed, that thewhole kingdom could not produce one who could in any way compare withher. It was Varina.

Armony: Varina! Varina! It’s you! What happened?

Varina: My dear brother! I don’t have a lot of time. Listen. My husband, theone you gave me to is making us come here and steal the apples. Takethese two apples that I should steal and give to the king Farell. I’ll tell my

husband that I lost them on the way to his palace.

Armony: But where is that palace? I will kill the one who took you awayfrom me!

Varina: Listen. When our father died, he told me why he wanted to giveme away to the very first man who came. It was because he knew that isthe only way to find wives for you, Hero and Beau.

Armony: You know about Hero?

Varina: Of course. He is alive and he found himself a good wife, they will

be here soon.

Armony: How do you know?

Varina: Father told me before he died. He only wanted to find wives foryou. Even that means that I have to suffer. He knew that if you do notknow where I am that you will go to the journey to try find me. And he knewthat you will find your wives by trying to save me.

Armony: Varina… If I only knew… Hero…It’s…

Varina: It is not his fault, he just wanted to make father happy.Armony: I have to save you.

Varina: It’s too late.

At that moment Varina turned out to seagull again and flew away. Armonywas desperate. In the morning he gave the king two apples and told himand his brother all what happened under that tree.

Beau: The seagull, you say?

Laura:  As your brother’s wife, I have to tell you something.

Armony: Yes?

Laura: Long time ago, my father used to take me to visit my uncle, theking of the sea Halbert. He is also the king who has the power that allowshim to shine. Beau told me that when you first saw the man who came tomarry Varina was all in bright light, right?

Beau: My love, so, you’re saying that my sister’s husband is your uncle?

Laura: He might be.

Armony: Take us there. Farell, my sister is a thief, but against her will. Noone will take away your apples any more-

Farell: My son, go with peace. Take my daughter Shena as a sign offorgiveness. I understand completely.
