OVERVIEW
Case 34031, Sample Delivery Groups (SDGs) MCOOB4 and MCOOK7, consisted of forty (40)soil samples analyzed for total metals and cyanide (CN~) by Chemtech Consulting Group(CHEM). The sample set included five (5) field duplicate pairs. Samples were analyzed inaccordance with Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) Statement of Work (SOW) ILM05.3through Routine Analytical Services (RAS) program.
SUMMARY
All samples were successfully analyzed for all Target Analyte List (TAL) parameters. Areas ofconcern with respect to data usability are listed below.
Data in this case have been impacted by technical holding time as well as by outliers present inthe laboratory blanks, matrix spike and serial dilution analyses. Details of these outliers arediscussed under "Minor Problems"; specific samples affected are outlined in "Table 1 A" andqualified analytical results for all samples are summarized on the Data Summary Forms (DSFs).
MINOR PROBLEMS
The aqueous technical holding time of twenty-eight (28) days from time of sample collection tosample analysis for mercury (Hg) has been exceeded by forty-three (43) days for sample MC0085in SDG MCOOK7. Although no technical holding time has been established for soil samples, theaqueous holding time was applied by the reviewer. The quantitation limit for this analyte in thisSDG may be biased low and has been qualified "UL" on the DSF.
AR118865
NOTES
Reported results between MDLs and Contract Required Quantitation Limits (CRQLs) werequalified "J" on the DSFs unless superseded by "B".
The SDG Narrative explains that the laboratory received sample MC0085 in SDG MCOOK7 withone (1) soil jar whereas all other samples were received with two (2) soil jars (one for metalsanalysis and one for cyanide analysis). Furthermore, the Chain of Custody (CoC) Record liststhis sample for cyanide analysis only. According to Region HI, though, it is acceptable for thelaboratory to analyze this sample for both total metals and cyanide using this one (1) soil jar.Originally, the laboratory only reported results for this sample from the cyanide analysis;however, the laboratory resubmitted the data for SDG MCOOK7 to include results for all analytesfor sample MC0085. These resubmitted results are reported on the DSF for sample MC0085.
In SDG MCOOK7, one (1) of the CRQL check standard recoveries (CRI02) in the secondanalytical run for Hg was high (>130%). Therefore, the laboratory reanalyzed the CRQL checkstandard as CRI03, which was inside the control limits. No data were qualified based on thisfinding.
Relative Percent Differences (RPDs) for the laboratory duplicate analyses were outsidecontractual control limits (20% RPD, ±CRQL) for Mn in SDG MCOOB4 as well as for calcium(Ca) and Hg in SDG MCOOK7. However, RPDs for these analytes were within Region 3established control limits (35% RPD, ±2XCRQL) for soil analysis. No data were qualified forthese analytes in these SDGs based on laboratory duplicate imprecision.
Reported results for field duplicate pair MCOODO/MC0066 were within 35% RPD, ±2XCRQLfor all analytes except iron (Fe).
Reported results for field duplicate pair MCOOC7/MC0077 were within 35% RPD, ±2XCRQLfor all analytes except Co, Fe, lead (Pb) and Mn.
Reported results for field duplicate pair MCOOC9/MC0086 were within 35% RPD, ±2XCRQLfor all analytes except barium (Ba) and Ca.
Reported results for field duplicate pair MCOOC8/MC0182 were within 35% RPD, ±2XCRQLfor all analytes except As, Co, Pb and Mn.
Reported results for field duplicate pair MCOOG1/MC0001 were within 35% RPD, ±2XCRQLfor all analytes except Hg.
The post-digestion spike recovery was low for Mn in SDG MCOOB4; however, data are notqualified based on the post-digestion spike recovery.

Following is the response from the Lab regarding the questions from the sampler. Please advise on if the labshould proceed with analysis or proceed with transshipping the samples.
1. What was the CLP number that was printed on the label (if it was the MC series, then the analyses noted onthe label are incorrect)?2. What was the CLP number that was printed on the bottle tag, as well as the specified analyses?3. Do the tag numbers from the bottles in question match the TR.?
The information for Station Location, Collection Time, & Date match w/ the Tag, Bottle 's Label and TR.

The information for Station Location, Collection Time, & Date match w/ the Tag, Bottle 's Label and TR.
Mike,I will contact the field personnel. Since the sample have CLP metals IDs, the samples are for TAL +Hg+CNand mislabelled.

Following is the resolution to the issue below:
Issue: The lab indicated that each sample received for Case 34031 consisted of 2 soil jars (1 Metals, 1Cyanide), however sample MC0085 was only sent with one Metal jar. The lab would like to know ifthey should use the Metals jar for sample MC0085 to analyze for Metals and Cyanide.
Resolution: Per Region 3, it is acceptable for the lab to analyze for Metals and Cyanide from the Metaljar for sample MC0085.
