(2) Xであれ 、Yであれ 、大差はないんじゃない? (3) あいつがそれを読んでみろ 、計画は失敗だぞ。 (Shinzato 2002: 585-586) (1)(2)は「2つの名詞X,Yのうち、どちらであって も」という意味の定型表現であり、条件節をなす。 (3)は後続する主文を導く条件節をなす。 「しろ・あれ・みろ」はもともと動詞の命令形。 2.英語の場合 (4) Make a move and I’ll shoot you. (動いてみろ 、撃つぞ。)(筆者訳) (5) Go to Kilkenny, to Dublin or even to London – I won’t leave you. (Narrog 2012: 42) (キルケニーであれ 、ダブリン、ロンドンであれ 、 行ったとしても、君を離さない。)(筆者訳) (6) Rain or shine, we’re having our party outside today. (Quirk et al. 1985: 1101, Narrog Ibid.) (雨であれ 、晴れであれ 、今日は外でパーティをし ます。) (筆者訳) (英語の例つづき) (4)「動詞命令形 + and ~」が、偽命令形(pseudo- imperative)(Narrog ibid.: 40)として知られる、後 続節の条件を表す節(構文)となっている。(4)を発 話する話者に命令の意思はなく、命令の意味は漂 白している。 (5)(6)は、「複数の選択肢があるところ、いずれの 場合も」という意味を表す譲歩の条件節を成す。 話者の命令の意味は漂白し、後続の主節を導く 条件節を成している。 3.リトアニア語の場合 (7) Prašý-k ne-prašý-k - sūrio ne-gáu-s-i beg-IMP NEG-beg-IMP cheese(GEN) NEG-get-FUT-2SG ‘You may beg or not (IMPER) you won’t get any cheese’ (Ambrazas et al. 1997: 776, cited in Narrog 2012: 44). 「願っても願わなくても、チーズはあげられない。」 命令形 が、譲歩を表す条件節の先行節として文法化して いるのは日本語だけでなく、リトアニア語も同様である。 (この条件節では、「V+否定の接頭辞ne V」(命令形)という 形をよく取る。)(Narrog ibid.: 43-44.) 3言語において同様の機能変化 動詞命令形 条件節 高い間主観性 接続機能 間主観的 接続的 機能へ (動詞命令形から、節末の接続表現への変化とみ なすことができる。)

「遠慮」「躊躇」 を表す表現。
