“I am very delighted to introduce myself to the community of St. Matthew. I grew up in southeast Portland and attended St. Ignatius School and St. Mary’s Academy. Since graduating from high school, I have continued my education at Western Oregon University, Warner Pacific University and the University of Portland. I live in Damascus, with my husband, Branden, and two daugh-ters, Julia and Katie. Our family also includes three feisty cats, Shilo, Figaro and Chloe. In my free time I enjoy watching my daugh-ters’ sports games, building LEGO, and quilting. I am looking forward to meeting all of the stu-dents, parents, parishioners and staff of St. Matthew. It is an outstanding community and I am so excited to be part of it! I look forward to meeting you soon!”

The City of Hillsboro is seeking volunteer chaplains to assist its police and fire departments. Volunteer Public Safety Chaplains respond to emergency scenes to support community members experienc-ing a life tragedy, and provide resources, infor-mation, and spiritual guidance as requested. Chaplains provide coverage 24/7 within the City of Hillsboro. They take shifts throughout the month. Specialized training is required and provided at no cost to volunteers. For more information, call Hills-boro Fire Chaplain, Chris Wade at (503) 707-9660 or email: [email protected].

The Homebound Ministry brings the Eucharist to our parish members who are unable to join our community at Sunday Mass. Although, the typical homebound members are St. Matthew senior pa-rishioners, our homebound visits also include those with physical challenges, ill or persons in rehabilita-tion. The Homebound Ministers go in person to vis-it, conduct Communion services at residential care and rehabilitation facilities. The Homebound minis-try is committed to serving our extended communi-ty. To request a visit by a homebound minister, con-tact Sandy Zajdel at (503) 277-8645 . ACA UPDATE

As of April 29, 2022, we have reached 74.9% of our ACA goal of $91,424. We need another $22,953. Thank you to the 205 generous parishioners who have already donated or pledged! The Archbishop's Catholic Appeal (ACA) supports the ministries in western Oregon - including pasto-ral ministries and care for the priesthood. As many of you know, the Archbishop is sent to the Diocese by the Holy See as the Teacher of the Cath-olic Faith. In turn, he sends out priests to the parish-es to be his vicars and teachers of the Catholic Faith. However, many parishes because of their size and financial support are unable to provide for all of the important ministerial responsibilities. Each year the parish-based ministries funded by the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal are evaluated in order to determine their need for support. Funds are then allocated to those that qualify. Immediate priority is given to provide support to the ministries and pro-grams which require Appeal funds to continue oper-ating. Funds are then made available to the remain-ing parish-based ministries according to needs. Pastoral ministries spread the word of Jesus to all people in every step of their spiritual journey. The ministers actively bring the love of God into peo-ple's lives by providing supportive care to those who are sick or suffering, people with disabili-ties, people who are deaf, and those in prison. The ACA also provides for the Holy Orders by caring for retired priests, educating the next generation of priests, and supporting the permanent diaconate. If you have not yet made your donation or pledge to the ACA, please reflect upon what God gives you on a daily basis and consider how much you will return to further His work in your Archdiocese. Please fill out and return the pledge envelope that the Archdiocese mailed to you in February. If you do not have a pledge / envelope, please pick one up the entrance tables in the church or in the parish office. You can make a pledge or make payments on your current pledge online. Just go to https://osd.archdpdx.org/ and click on the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal tab. On behalf of those ministries you are supporting both spiritually and materially, we offer our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude. May God con-tinue to bless St. Matthew Parish.
