…and promote by example high

standards of conduct, appearance, courtesy,

and performance.

Page 10: I am a Security Force member…
Page 11: I am a Security Force member…

I seek no favor because of my

position.

Page 12: I am a Security Force member…
Page 13: I am a Security Force member…

I perform my duties in a firm, courteous, and

impartial manner...

Page 14: I am a Security Force member…
Page 15: I am a Security Force member…

…irrespective of a person’s color, race,

religion, national origin, or sex.

Page 16: I am a Security Force member…
Page 17: I am a Security Force member…

I strive to merit the respect of my fellow

Airmen…

Page 18: I am a Security Force member…
Page 19: I am a Security Force member…

… and all with whom I come in

contact.

Page 20: I am a Security Force member…
Page 21: I am a Security Force member…

I am a Defender of the Force.

Page 22: I am a Security Force member…

I have answered to many names, and performed many missions.

Page 23: I am a Security Force member…

But the spirit remains the same.

Page 24: I am a Security Force member…
Page 25: I am a Security Force member…

In Korea, I had my baptism of fire.

Page 26: I am a Security Force member…

Standing watch of places with names like

Kimpo, Pohang, Taejon, and Chinhae.

Page 27: I am a Security Force member…
Page 28: I am a Security Force member…

I learned my lessons well, and stood ready

for freedom’s next call to arms.

Page 29: I am a Security Force member…
Page 30: I am a Security Force member…

And when freedom called, I learned names like Tan Son Nhut, Phu Cat,

Bien Hoa, and Phan Rang.

Page 31: I am a Security Force member…
Page 32: I am a Security Force member…

I also learned about sappers, stand-off weapons, and harassment fire.

Page 33: I am a Security Force member…

And I learned about heroes.

Page 34: I am a Security Force member…

Like Capt Reginald V. Maisey, “the hero of Bien Hoa,” who led his troops

through ferocious combat at “The Battle of Bunker Hill 10.”

One of two SF Air Force Cross recipients.

Page 35: I am a Security Force member…

He led from the front.

And he died there.

Hit by a rocket while calling in fire from an AC-47 Gunship.

Page 36: I am a Security Force member…
Page 37: I am a Security Force member…

And then there was a night in January of ’68 when

heroics was a post requirement.

Page 38: I am a Security Force member…

The night 6 enemy Infantry Battalions and 1 sapper Battalion came to visit

Ton Sun Nhut.

The Tet Offensive.

Page 39: I am a Security Force member…
Page 40: I am a Security Force member…

3 Battalions, 1000 enemy soldiers,

attacked Bunker 051 that night.

Page 41: I am a Security Force member…

They were engaged by 4 men with the spirit of thousands.

Page 42: I am a Security Force member…

Sergeants William Cyr, Louis Fischer,

Charles Hebron and Roger Mills.

Page 43: I am a Security Force member…

It took two direct RPG hits to silence that bunker.

The four sergeants took 100 Viet Cong with them.

Page 44: I am a Security Force member…
Page 45: I am a Security Force member…

Through the years, I’ve learned words like posthumous,

sorrow, and “ultimate sacrifice.”

Page 46: I am a Security Force member…

In May of ’75 I learned an especially hard lesson when a

CH-53, call sign “Knife”, crashed shortly after takeoff.

Page 47: I am a Security Force member…

I lost 18 Defenders that day.And the USS Mayaguez sailed on.

Page 48: I am a Security Force member…
Page 49: I am a Security Force member…

And through the years, my blood continued to flow.

Sacrifice in the name of freedom

Page 50: I am a Security Force member…

In Feb of ’78, I watched in horror as SrA Gray & his dog Casey

were killed on post in the Philippines.

Page 51: I am a Security Force member…
Page 52: I am a Security Force member…

Despite the strength of my spirit, I couldn’t warn TSgt Butler of

what waited for him during that “routine” traffic stop at Edwards

AFB in Jan of ‘98.

Page 53: I am a Security Force member…
Page 54: I am a Security Force member…

In Nov of ’99, TSgt Simons was hit by a car while on duty at Nellis AFB.

He gave his reflective vest to an Airman who’d forgotten theirs at home.

Page 55: I am a Security Force member…
Page 56: I am a Security Force member…
Page 57: I am a Security Force member…

But I have persevered.

Page 58: I am a Security Force member…

And my spirit is stronger than ever.

Page 59: I am a Security Force member…

On that September morning, when my world was forever changed,

Page 60: I am a Security Force member…

I once again heard freedom’s call.

Page 61: I am a Security Force member…
Page 62: I am a Security Force member…
Page 63: I am a Security Force member…
Page 64: I am a Security Force member…

And as the battle rages on…

Page 65: I am a Security Force member…

…rest assured the spirit of the Defender will prevail.

Page 66: I am a Security Force member…
Page 67: I am a Security Force member…
Page 68: I am a Security Force member…

Dedicated to all the Defenders of the Force who’ve heard freedom’s call,

and answered with their blood.
