VEHICLE DATA COLLECTION AND EVENT DATA RECORDERS
Your Hyundai vehicle is equipped with many high technology,
electronically controlled systems
that help to ensure your vehicle operates properly and provides
the performance that youexpect. These systems utilize computers to
monitor the operation of various systems andcomponents and help to
control their operation. These computerized system operations
arewide-ranging and involve components to reduce emissions, to
continuously evaluate thereadiness of the airbag and seat belt
pretensioner systems, to determine when the airbag andseat belt
pre-tensioner systems should be deployed and then to activate the
deployment, andif equipped, to operate anti-lock braking, traction
control and electrical stability control to assist
the driver to control the vehicle in difficult driving
situations. These systems electronically storeinformation that is
useful to service technicians when they need to diagnose and repair
thesesystems. Additional information is stored only when a crash
occurs that results in thedeployment of the airbags or seat belt
pre-tensioners. This type of data storage is done bydevices called
event data recorders(EDR).
After a crash event, the airbag and seat belt pre-tensioner
computer system, known as the
Supplemental Restraint System Control Module (SRSCM) or Airbag
Control Unit (ACU), mayrecord some information about the condition
of the vehicle and how it was being operated. Thisinformation
consists of data related to seat belt usage and if there was
diagnostic informationin the airbag or seat belt systems at the
time that a crash occurred, and if the ACU sensed thata crash of
sufficient severity occurred to require seat belt pre-tensioner or
airbag deployment.
To retrieve this information, special equipment is needed and
access to the vehicle or the devicethat stores the data is
required. Hyundai will not access information about a crash event
or share
it with others except:
o in response to an official request of police or similar
government office, oro with the consent of the vehicle owner or, if
the vehicle is leased, with the consent of the lessee,
oro as part of Hyundais defense of litigation, oro as required
by law.

During the First 1,200 Miles (2,000
Km)No formal "break-in" procedure is requiredwith your new
Hyundai. However, you cancontribute to the economical operationand
durability of your Hyundai by observ-ing the following
recommendations dur-ing the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km).
o Don't drive faster than 55 MPH (88 km/h).
o While driving, keep your engine speed(rpm, or revolutions per
minute) be-tween 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
o Use moderate acceleration. Don't start
quickly or depress the accelerator pedalfully.
o For the first 200 miles (300 km), try toavoid hard stops.
o Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in
too high a gearthat the engine "bucks"-shift to a lower
gear).o Whether going fast or slow, vary yourspeed from time to
time.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than 3minutes at one
time.
o Don't tow a trailer during the first 1,200miles (2,000 km) of

installed in the front passen-

always be seated in therear seat. NEVER place any infant
restraintsystem in the front seat of the vehicle. This type of seat
belt combines the fea-tures of both an emergency locking retrac-tor

retractor seat belt. To fasten your seat belt, pull it out of the

anaudible "click" when the tab locks into thebuckle. When not

asthe driver's seat belt (Emergency Locking

only after the lap beltportion of the seat belt is adjusted
manu-ally so that it fits snugly around your hips. When the seat
belt is fully extended fromthe retractor to allow the installation

Child Restraint System Installation
on Outboard Rear Seats WARNING:o If the retractor is not in the
Automatic
Locking mode, the child restraint canmove when your vehicle
turns or stopssuddenly. A child can be seriouslyinjured or killed
if the child restraint isnot properly anchored to the car, in-
cluding setting the retractor to theAutomatic Locking mode.o Do
not install any child restraint sys-
tem in the front passenger seat.Should an accident occur and
causethe passenger side airbag to deploy,it could severely injure
or kill an infantor child seated in an infant or childseat.
Therefore, only use a child re-straint system in the rear seat of
yourvehicle.
To install a child restraint system in theoutboard rear seats,
extend the shoulder/lap belt entirely from its retractor until
a"click" is felt. This will engage the seat beltretractor automatic
locking feature, whichallows the seat belt to retract but not
ex-tend. Install the child restraint system, buckle the seat belt
and allow the seat belt
to take up any slack. Make sure that the lapportion of the belt
is tight around the childrestraint system and the shoulder
portionof the belt is positioned so that it can notinterfere with
the child's head or neck.
Also, double check to be sure that theretractor has engaged the
Automatic Lock-
ing feature by trying to extend webbing outof the retractor. If
the retractor is in theAutomatic Locking mode, the belt will
belocked. After installation of the child re-straint system, try to
move it in all directionsto be sure the child restraint system is
se-curely installed. If you need to tighten the
belt, pull more webbing toward the retrac-tor. When you unbuckle
the seat belt andallow it to retract, the retractor will
automati-cally revert back to its normal seated pas-senger
Emergency Locking usage condi-tion.
NOTE:o Before installing the child restraintsystem in any
seating position, readthe instructions supplied by the
childrestraint system manufacturer.
o If the seat belt does not operate asdescribed, have the system
checkedimmediately by your authorizedHyundai dealer.

o The SRS is designed to deploy thefront airbags only when an
impact is
sufficiently severe and when the im-pact angle is less than 30

airbags will not deployin side, rear or rollover impacts.
Addi-tionally, the airbags will only deployonce. Seat belts must be
worn at alltimes.
! WARNING:o Front airbags are not intended to de-ploy in
side-impact, rear-impact orrollover crashes. In addition,
airbagswill not deploy in frontal crashes be-low the deployment

o Move your seat as far back as prac-
tical from the front airbags, while stillmaintaining control of
the vehicle. Youand your passengers should neversit or lean
unnecessarily close to theairbags. Improperly positioned driv-ers
and passengers can be severelyinjured by inflating airbags.
o No objects should be placed over or
near the airbag modules on the steer-ing wheel, instrument
panel, and thefront passenger's panel above theglove box, because
any such objectcould cause harm if the vehicle is in acrash severe
enough to cause theairbags to deploy.
o If the airbags deploy, they must bereplaced by an authorized
Hyundaidealer. Deployed airbags WILL NOTinflate again and will
provide no pro-tection in subsequent collisions.
o Do not tamper with or disconnect SRSwiring or other components
of theSRS system. Doing so could result ininjury, due to accidental
deploymentof the airbags or by rendering the SRSinoperative.
o Even though your vehicle is equippedwith the occupant

the front passenger seatposition. A child restraint systemmust
never be placed in the front seat. The infant or child could be
severelyinjured or killed by an airbag deploy-
ment in case of an accident.o Children younger than 13 years
must
always be properly restrained in therear seat. Never allow
