Scholarship

Page 7: Hyundai Motors

As the President of India believes education is the future of India, HMI (Hyundai Motor India) also considers that it is one of the most important objectives of HMIF (Hyundai Motor India Foundation). On 10, April, 2006, the inauguration of HMIF, we showed our will to support education by handing over Rs 3,500,000 to Madras University to enhance the educational infrastructure in Tamilnadu.

Since HMIF is in charge of handling foundation activity, we are able to plan for providing quality primary, secondary & higher education and vocational training more systematically and professionally.

HMIF has been initiating various scholarship programs for instance, an Internship through academic-industrial cooperation with relating training programs, contribution to life skills education for women through an organization Y.W.C.A. and supports the schools, colleges and universities even to non-governmental organizations such as awareness and campaign programs.

Especially, HMIF renovated a technological training center for giving the students an opportunity to learn through improvement of educational environment in Assam Sate which is located in Northeast India.

On September 20, 2006, Hyundai Group Chairman, Mr M K Chung had a meeting with the President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. During the discussion about technological and educational supports to the rural student, technical support to Assam was suggested.

Meeting with the officials revealed that support was required to improve the functions in ITI, modernize the aggregates such as engines & transmissions and revamp of training facilities. HMIF planed to modernize and supplement the educational infrastructure of Assam it is in three phases. First of all, it starts from 2007 for training facility renovation. Second phases will start in 2008 and third one in 2011 for the employment opportunity. As a vocational learning, it will also provide several job opportunities to certified ITI students

Hyundai Motor Foundation (HMF) has been established to provide the financial aid, relief activities, and reconstruction support for areas that have been affected by such natural disasters as earthquakes, tsunami, flood, and so forth.

No one would forget what happened in the southeastern coast of India on December 26, 2004. The tsunami on the Indian Ocean caused incalculable devastation in terms of human lives and properties in the Indian province of Tamiladu where the Indian corporation of HMC is located. As the biggest investor in Tamilnadu, HMI delivered a relief aid to the local citizens, along with donations of money and goods from HMC employees that filled two trucks.

HMI then dispatched the employees in the medical unit of the company as well as doctors and nurses of Sudar Hospital to the most affected area of Nagapattinam to take care of over 5,000 locals and give vaccinations against water-born infections. The medical services were soon expanded to incorporate areas surrounding Nagapattinam as well. HMI volunteers then went on to repair cars in the flooded areas of Kalpakkam and Andaman in an effort to alleviate burdens on the locals.

HMI delivered another disaster relief aid in 2005, as parts of Tamiladu were flooded and ruined by heavy rainfalls.

America

Hope On Wheels

Hyundai dealers and Hyundai Motor America wanted a way to gear up support for a cause that we feel passionate about: pediatric cancer research and treatment. We also wanted to give back to the communities in which we live and where do business. So we created Hyundai Hope On Wheels to do both..Hyundai joined the fight against pediatric cancer in 1998 through the efforts of Boston-area Hyundai dealers and their donations benefiting the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since that time, Hyundai dealers have been Helping Kids Fight Cancer with corporate contributions of over $8 million to hospitals across the country.

Support for America Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is a community-based voluntary health organization headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with more than 3,400 local offices across the US. Over the past several years, the American Cancer Society has been cooperating with the business sector in implementing health and wellness programs at US corporations. HMA has been supporting the American Cancer Society since 2001

Rebuilding Together

Many people are finding it tough to cope with basic expenses as the cost of living rises, and the social welfare budget continues to shrink. Sometimes, even a safe home seems out of reach. Rebuilding Together was started to help low-income homeowners who are finding it hard to make ends meet. Many low-income families lack the financial means to maintain their homes or even invest in their own health. They often cannot afford to pay for essential home repairs and modifications.

Over the past two years, HMMA has been participating in Rebuilding Together projects to help needy families. HMMA employees have been contributing in various ways, from painting walls to carrying out repair work. The goal is to find solutions for the disabled, the elderly, families with many children, and others in need who are finding it hard to preserve their homes.

Volunteer of the Year Awards

HMMA has contributed to improving the local community through a wide range of charitable endeavors. In step with the strong dedication to serving our neighbors, HMMA employees clocked in more than 1,000 volunteer hours in 2007.

The US has a long tradition of volunteering. By helping others, volunteers help bring families and communities closer together. The President's Volunteer Service Award was created in 2003 to recognize people with outstanding service to their communities and to promote the spirit of volunteering.

The award is given to individuals, families or groups in recognition of volunteer hours recorded over a one-year period. The minimum criteria for receiving the gold level of the President's Volunteer Service Award is 100 hours for children, 250 hours for young adults, 500 hours for adults, and 1,000 hours for families and groups. HMMA was honored with the gold level of the award in 2007. As indicated in our CSR slogan of “Moving the World Together,” Hyundai Motor will continue to engage with local communities to make the world a better place.

Toys for Tots

The US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program collects toy donations from October to December every year. The toys are then wrapped and distributed as Christmas gifts to needy children. The program aims to deliver the message of hope to underprivileged youngsters, so they may nurture their dreams and grow up into healthy and responsible members of society. Along with money and toy donations, the tireless efforts of numerous volunteers are behind the Toys for Tots program. HMMA is among the supporters of this initiative for children. HMMA employees take the time to collect toys that will become precious Christmas gifts. They also reach out to neighbors in need during the holiday season which can be an especially lonely time for the less fortunate.

Vehicle Donations to Alabama Public Schools HMMA provides vehicles needed for the driving lessons and automotive training programs at local public schools. Developed to provide necessary materials for the driving lessons and automotive education at two-year colleges and public high schools in the state of Alabama, the campaign delivered Sonatas newly produced in the Alabama plant,

Agricultural villages are in dire need of labor, as young people have emigrated to urban areas, leaving the elderly behind.

The issue becomes especially visible during busy agricultural seasons of rice-planting and harvesting, as the elderly populations in the villages are often unable to plant and harvest as much as they need.

The Voluntary Services Corps of HMC visit the sixty-six affiliate villages throughout the country during these busy seasons in order to help with the agricultural tasks. Although these volunteers are often not used to perform agricultural practices and may make mistakes, they know how rewarding such experiences can be with the passion of the rural villagers.
