Nottingham North East Circuit - Sunday 4th July 2021
This short act of worship has been prepared for you by Rev Yanyan Case to use at home. If you
are well enough, why not spend a few moments with God, knowing that other people are sharing
this act of worship with you
Call to worship
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to
your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your
faithfulness at night,
For you make us glad by your deeds, Lord; We sing
for joy at what your hands have done.
How great are your works, Lord, how profound
your thoughts!
The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they
will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish
in the courts of our God.
They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay
fresh and green, proclaiming,
“The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no
wickedness in him.”
Opening prayer
Heavenly Father, as I (we) read this home worship
sheet, may you find delight in my (our)
wholehearted worship to you. Thanks for your
amazing grace.
Lord Jesus, our saviour and redeemer. It is your
kindness and mercy that draws us to the foot of
the cross in repentance. Lord forgive us for the
times we are ignorant to your instructions and
turned a blind eye to those who are in need.
Forgive us when we cared too much or too little
about ourselves that we failed to be your salt and
light in the world. Forgive us the times that we
relied on our own strength and forgot that you are
our God.
In your mercy, we come to the foot of the cross. By
your stripes, we are healed and forgiven.
Holy Spirit, speak to our heart and feed us with the
finest bread from heaven. Draw us into the inner
chamber of God so that we may know your
intimate love to us today.
All glory be unto the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit. Amen.
Hymn 1: Great is Thy faithfulness
Singing the Faith:51
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k1WhFtVp0o
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions,
they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be
Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness
22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”
But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered.
28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
29 Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.”
But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.
30 So Jacob called the place Peniel,[b] saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”
31 The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip. 32 Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob’s hip was touched near the tendon.
Hymn 2: How deep the Father’s love for us
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKDujmtyAVk
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom
Response: Merciful Father, bless us; Don’t go until you bless us. Loving Father in heaven, for a love that lies beyond our understanding, we want to thank you we praise you. Thank you for sending us your Son Jesus Christ so that we can come back to your holy presence and inherit your blessings. Father, make us a channel of your love to the world around us. We pray for the world where suffering, conflict, poverty, crime and disease is a normal part of people’s lives. May you send your help and decree new order so that the world may experience your peace, your provision, your reality and give thanks and praise to your glorious name. (Say your own prayer in silence…) Merciful Father, bless us; don’t go until you bless us. We pray for those who are terribly affected by this pandemic, who are suffering from isolation, loneliness and fear. Open our eyes, that we might see your face behind masks; and give us words of wisdom so that we may know how to respond with compassion. (Say your own prayer in silence…) Merciful Father, bless us; don’t go until you bless us. We think of those whose agony lies beyond our perception – to those who suffer in silence, or simply because they have no voice and no smart phones to bring them to our attention. Open our ears, that we might hear your voice in the voices of others. (Say your own prayer in silence…) Merciful Father, bless us; don’t go until you bless us. We now pray for ourselves. Father, come and meet us where we are. Help us to find time and space to have that one-on-one time with you. Reveal yourself in our wrestling and bless us with wisdom, guidance, peace, strength and comfort so that we can grow our faith in you to face today and gain new hope for tomorrow.
