Process Description of our Iron and Fluoride Removal Plant
The raw water from the bore well is fed to an OxidationChamber filled with Oxidizing media Manganese Dioxidefor the oxidation of the soluble Iron present in raw water.
MnO2 + 2Fe(HCO3)2 + H2O = MnO + 2Fe(OH)3 + 4CO2 + H2O
Water from the Oxidation Chamber along with theprecipitate of Ferric Hydroxide is passed into a DualMedia Filter containing Anthracite, Sand on the gradedGravels. The precipitate of the Iron get settled in the SandBed and the water becomes free from Iron and othersuspended solids.
The above process is used where only Iron RemovalPlants are required

The water free from Iron and Suspended Solids now flows into an adsorption towerfilled with adsorbent Activated Alumina in down flow mode. When water comes incontact with the surface of a well degassed transition Alumina surface Hydroxyls areformed due to irreversible chemisorptions. These hydroxyls behave amphotericallyand removes soluble Fluoride as below –* ------ ----- ---
AlOH2+ AlOH + H+ AlO- + H+
Binding of Fluoride to Activated Alumina is mainly ascribed to ligand exchange and can be represented as -
* --------- ----Al – OH- + F- AlF + OH- (pH > 7)
* ------- -----AlOH2
+ + F- AlF + H2O (pH < 6)
* Over bar indicates the solid state
