PIT COVER DESIGN LOADS AND PIT COVER ALLOWABLE DEFLECTION ETC. REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM
DESIGN LIFE OF 100 YEARS AND STRUCTURAL STEEL COMPONENTS SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM DESIGN LIFE OF 50 YEARS.THE STRUCTURAL
ENGINEER SHALL PROVIDE A CERTIFICATE STATING THAT ALL STRUCTURAL ITEMS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ICON WATER
REQUIREMENTS AS DETAILED IN ICON WATER'S DESIGN INFRASTRUCTURE STANDARDS AS WELL AS THE RELEVANT AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS
AND CODES OF PRACTICE.
39. THE MAXIMUM DEPTH OF EACH METER PIT SHALL BE LIMITED TO 1500mm SO THAT PORTABLE LADDERS CAN BE USED TO ACCESS THE PIT. THE
METER PIT PIPEWORK DEPTH CAN BE ADJUSTED TO SUIT AS PER THE DEEP PIT CONNECTION DETAIL LOCATED ON DRAWING WSS-103.
40. METER PITS SHALL HAVE A 3.0 METRE WIDE ACCESS CORRIDOR PROVIDED ALONG AT LEAST ONE (LONG) SIDE FOR ICON WATER MAINTENANCE
VEHICLES. THIS ACCESS CORRIDOR MAY BE A SHARED USE AREA SUCH AS A DRIVEWAY OR PARKING SPACE AS LONG AS THE SPACE CAN BE
QUICKLY AND EASILY CLEARED IF ICON WATER IS REQUIRED TO PERFORM MAINTENANCE WORK IN THE METER PIT.
41. THE TOP OF THE METER PIT SHALL FINISH 50 TO 100 mm ABOVE FINISHED SURFACE LEVEL (FSL) TO AVOID THE PIT FLOODING DURING HEAVY
RAIN EVENTS. HOWEVER, IF THE METER PIT IS TO BE LOCATED IN AN AREA SHARED WITH VEHICLES, REMOVABLE VEHICLE BOLLARDS (WITH
BASES EMBEDDED IN A CONCRETE FOOTING) SHALL BE INSTALLED AS APPROPRIATE. ALTERNATIVELY, THE TOP OF THE METER PIT SHALL
FINISH 300 TO 400 mm ABOVE FSL AND THE METER PIT COVERS SHALL BE DESIGNED FOR THE APPROPRIATE VEHICLE LOADS. REFER TO NOTE
41 FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
42. A DN100 PVC-U DRAIN PIPE SHALL BE CAST IN TO THE METER PIT SO THAT THE DRAIN PIPE INVERT IS FLUSH WITH THE LOWEST POINT IN THE
METER PIT FLOOR SLAB. THE DRAIN SHALL BE CONNECTED TO THE STORMWATER SYSTEM.
MANDATORY METER PIT COVERS DESIGN DETAILS - FOR DN50 METERS AND ABOVE
43. COVERS MUST BE CAPABLE OF A MID-SPAN DEFLECTION OF LESS THAN 5 mm WHEN SUBJECTED TO A UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED LOAD (UDL) OF
2.5 kPa. THE SAME DEFLECTION CRITERIA APPLIES IF THE COVERS ARE DESIGNED FOR VEHICLE LOADS. ANY COVER PANEL SUPPORT BEAMS (IF
REQUIRED) MUST BE EASILY REMOVED (i.e. THEY SHALL NOT TO BE CAST-IN).
44. THE MAXIMUM WEIGHT OF EACH COVER PANEL SHALL BE 32 kg. FOR COVER PANELS ≤ 20 kg, ONLY ONE LIFTING HANDLE IS REQUIRED,
OTHERWISE TWO LIFTING HANDLES SHALL BE PROVIDED PER COVER PANEL.
45. APPROVED PIT COVER MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS:
METER PITS LOCATED IN, OR CLOSE TO PUBLIC AREAS : WEBFORGE “WEBPLATE” (i.e. CHEQUERPLATE AND GRATING COMBINED) OR
EQUIVALENT CONSTRUCTED OF GALVANISED STEEL OR ALUMINIUM. ALTERNATIVELY CHEQUERPLATE (MINIMUM THICKNESS OF 6 mm)
AND SUITABLY STIFFENED WITH GALVANISED STEEL OR ALUMINIUM ANGLE AS APPROPRIATE. HINGE BOLTS SHALL BE SPOT-WELDED
AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE COVERS TO PREVENT UNAPPROVED REMOVAL BY THE PUBLIC.
METER PITS LOCATED AWAY FROM PUBLIC AREAS : WEBFORGE “C STYLE” GRATING CONSTRUCTED OF GALVANISED STEEL OR
ALUMINIUM, BANDED ALL-ROUND (INCLUDING CUT-OUTS) OR EQUIVALENT. HINGE BOLTS SHALL NOT BE SPOT WELDED.
GALVANISED FASTENERS SHALL BE USED FOR GALVANISED COVER COMPONENTS. GRADE 4.6 GALVANISED STEEL HINGE BOLTS SHALL
BE USED FOR BOTH GALVANISED STEEL AND ALUMINIUM COVER PANEL HINGES. ALL OTHER FASTENERS IN ALUMINIUM COVER
COMPONENTS (IF REQUIRED) SHALL BE STAINLESS STEEL.
46. A HINGED INSPECTION COVER SHALL BE INSTALLED OVER THE COVER PANEL CUT-OUT LOCATED DIRECTLY OVER EACH WATER METER. THE
CUT-OUT IN THE COVER PANEL SHALL BE LOCATED SO THAT ITS CENTRE IS DIRECTLY OVER THE MIDDLE OF THE WATER METER DISPLAY
LOCATED BELOW.

47. A PROPERTY SERVICE ISOLATION VALVE SHALL BE INSTALLED WITHIN 1.0 METRE OF THE PROPERTY BOUNDARY REGARDLESS OF THE LOCATION
OF THE METER. EACH MAIN-TO-METER SERVICE REQUIRES ITS OWN INDIVIDUAL ISOLATION.
48. DRAWING WSS-108 PROVIDES MINIMUM MANDATORY INFORMATION AND SHALL BE READ IN-CONJUNCTION WITH DRAWINGS WSS-101 TO 104
AS APPLICABLE.
49. THE MAINTENANCE ACCESS ZONE MUST BE FREE OF RUBBISH AND MATERIALS. IT MAY BE LOCATED IN A PARKING SPACE ON THE PROVISO
THAT VEHICLES MUST BE REMOVED WHEN THE METER REQUIRES READING OR WHEN MAINTENANCE WORK IS REQUIRED. SAFE ACCESS TO AND
FROM THE METER INSTALLATION MUST BE PROVIDED.
50. WHILST ICON WATER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING A WATER SERVICE UP TO THE RESPONSIBILITY LIMIT SHOWN ON DRAWING WSS-108,
ICON WATER CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MAIN-TO-METER PIPE RUNS THAT ARE INACCESSIBLE. IN SUCH CASES, THE INACCESSIBLE
PIPEWORK SHALL BE THE LEASEHOLDERS RESPONSIBILITY.
51. PIPE SUPPORTS SHALL BE LOCATED TO CATER FOR LOADS SUCH AS SELF WEIGHT AS WELL AS THRUST LOADS. THE DETERMINATION OF THE
CORRECT SUPPORT TYPE AND SUPPORT SPACING SHALL BE DETERMINED BY A COMPETENT ENGINEER.
