Staff are offering a range of programs throughout the week for students to participate in. These activities include: Lego / Construction, Chess, Choir, Art, Ukelele, Library, ICT, Netball and Football. Our goal is to provide opportunities for our students to engage and experience a range of activities, build new friendships and pursue their interests during the lunch break. Yesterday we had over 60 students from P-6 involved in our first Lego / Construction session. A great start to our program! Education Week Education Week will be celebrated from 19-25 May 2013 when kindergarten programs and government schools throughout Victoria will open their doors to parents and their broader communities through information nights, open days, student displays, performances and other special events that showcase their programs and achievements Education Week provides us with an opportunity to showcase learning programs and opportunities at our school. Throughout this week we will conduct tours for 2014 prospective prep parents as well as providing open sessions for current parents to observe and participate in the learning happening through the school. Tuesday 21 st : Open morning for prospective families Parent information evening on ’Online Safety’ and Cyber Bullying. (TO BE CONFIRMED) Thursday 23 rd : Open morning for current families. Parents, grandparents and family friends are invited to visit classrooms. Attitudes to School Survey Our Year 5 and Year 6 students will be participating in the DEECD 2013 Attitudes to School Survey in early May. This gives our students the opportunity to express their view about our school, their experiences in the classroom and their experiences with their teachers and other students. The collated information is very useful in assisting us to plan future learning programs and activities for our students. A report summarising our student data will be available to our Leadership Team and School Council later in the year. Uniform Review The review of our Uniform Policy was completed at the end of 2012. This year a sub group of the Education and Policy committee (including parents and teachers) is reviewing the current school uniform. At this stage the group is considering different items that could be incorporated into the current uniform. Final recommendations will be shared with the community later in the year after extensive consultation.

Parent Help Many parents may not be aware that there is a free telephone counselling service for parents and carers of children aged from birth to eighteen (Parentline). The line is staffed by professional counsellors who can help with a variety of issues that impact parenting and family relationships. Counsellors can help with the development of strategies and skills to assist with issues such as child behaviour and development, family breakdown, parent-child relationship issues, bullying, adolescent aggression and violence and parental stress. Parentline staff are not health experts, but can provide parents with contact details of local and other services that can provide further support, including health advice. Parentline is available from 8 am until midnight seven days a week, every day of the year. Calls are confidential and anonymous and staff can also connect callers to the Telephone Interpreter Service and utilise the National Relay Service if required. The telephone number for Parentline is 13 22 89. Calls from landlines are at the cost of a local call. Calls from mobiles vary according to individual plans. We would like to ask someone to volunteer to be in charge of making the noticeboard look great. Every time we have an event, there are fliers and sometimes posters that are put up on the noticeboard. Afterwards, there are often photos. But it’s been looking a little dull this year. Would you be willing to volunteer to look after it? It would take a little time once a fortnight or so to dress it up a little: maybe some coloured paper, a banner, kids drawings, whatever you like. You can be as creative as you like! If you think you can help out, even occasionally, to make our noticeboard look great, please email Rosemary on [email protected]
Thank you, on behalf of the Fundraising Team.
