Focus/Lesson: Inferring – watch the video to learn about Inferring

Use the pictures below and the chart to make some inferences.

*Submit this work by email.

Writing Focus/Lesson:

Grade 1

1. Watch “A Whales Tale”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFPoIU5iiYQ

2. Optional read aloud “One Plastic Bag”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B6p04Zph04&t=607s until 9:00 minutes

3. As observed in the video, plastic litter is harmful to the plants and wildlife in our environment, in your journal make an inference about how you think plastic litter can negatively effect the environment if it is not cleaned up.

4. Last week you tracked the objects you were able to recycle at home. However many things that we throw in the garbage can be disposed of in other ways, such as composting. Composting is what happen when food and “biodegradable” material break down. When these materials breakdown they turn into “compost” or dirt in other words. View the read aloud “Compost Stew” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQvzuIiEsB4 (until 2:24) for what can be made into compost.

5. Please complete the experiment below to test how composting work.

6. After starting your experiment, for 5 days note daily changes in your journal. You can send a picture of your final day to your teacher with your work.

Grade 2

1. Last week we learned about continents and the differences

between them, this week we will discuss a similarity. One major similarity all continents have is the challenge of plastic pollution.

2. Watch “A Whales Tale”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFPoIU5iiYQ

3. Watch read aloud “One Plastic Bag”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B6p04Zph04&t=607s until 9:00 minutes

4. As observed in the video and read aloud, plastic litter is harmful to the plants and wildlife in our environment, in your journal make an inference about how you think plastic litter can negatively effect the environment if it is not cleaned up.

5. As seen in the read aloud there is the problem of litter of garbage worldwide. However there are many things we can do to solve this problem, such as recycling our recyclables, reusing items and reducing the amount of pollution we make. As well composting is a way of disposing of our food and “biodegradable” materials.
