CHAPTER 37 SOLAR ENERGY EQUIPMENT
China dominates the world market with 70% of the existing global
capacity, producing 77% of the world’s solar hot-water collectors in 2009, followed by 12% in Europe (REN21 2010). Practically all installations in China are for domestic hot water only. The trend in Europe is towards larger solar-combi systems that provide both domestic hot water and space heating, accounting for half of the annual market (Balaras et al. 2010), as well as multipurpose heat-pump-assisted solar systems (Todorovic et al. 2010). The U.S. market for solar hot-water collectors (excluding unglazed swimming pool heating) is still relatively small but is gaining ground (especially in California), and in 2009 total capacity increased 10% to some 2.1 GWth (REN21 2010).

Deep Ene4gy Refurbishment Projects Specifics The distinct differences in Refurbishment and New-Build
projects are insufficiently recognized and managed as such ERP are subjected to a number of financial, legal, technical, physical and regulatory constraints ERP barriers elimination is of crucial importance to be defined and founded especially for the Residential Buildings - biggest number of existing buildings
RP Technical and Managerial Problems are Unique
Little as-built information to guide demolition/integration of ‘new’ to ‘existing work Indoor E&A quality and safety of occupants requires safeguarding in occupied buildings There are higher risks in costing and managing refurbishments Procurement should provide equitable allocation of the risks of the ‘unknowns’
