layered protection. Through advanced technology we have developed chainsaw protective material that comprises of fewer layers making it lighter but still with the same levels of protection. Should an accident occur, the material and layering consists of long fibres designed to get tangled in the chain.

Safe in the knowledge that it’s Husqvarna protective clothing from head to toe.

When you are working with high-powered chainsaws, high quality protective clothing is of the upmost importance. There are a large number of developments in materials for protective clothing but through rigorous monitoring of manufactured protective clothing, users can feel secure in the know ledge that the clothing they are wearing has met the standards and tests stipulated for safety requirements. Practical protective clothing and safety accessories must be used in combination to ensure the best possible protection and optimum safety. For protection at work, it has to be used. But please remember always read

the user manual and use common sense when working with machines in the forest or garden. That’s why we put a lot of time into making our protective equipment and clothing so comfortable and ergonomic that you can use them without being restricted or bothered while you work. Good protective equipment must withstand the wear inflicted by long shifts and demanding conditions. The fit and the protective qualities of protective clothing must be retained after it has been used, washed and cleaned. That’s why Husqvarna selects the best materials for the job they are needed for.

Stay safe, stay protected. It’s important that you wash your clothing regularly to help maintain its protective values and check for damage. That goes for all clothing including gloves and helmets. Replace any damaged items. Read labels for advice.

the most rigorous safety testing.Protective clothing for forestry work must carry CE marking. When it also carries the EuroTest mark, you know that randomly selected samples are regularly re-inspected by an accredited institute. EuroTest shows that the manufacturer has made every effort to ensure that every sample it produces fulfils the safety requirements. CE marks and the Euro Test logos can be found on Husqvarna certified clothing. Numbers regarding the safety standards i.e. EN381 can be found on many items. These numbers are there as a standards mark showing that these items have been thoroughly tested in compliance with the required testing methods set out by the European Council. Items which carry these safety testing labels does not offer 100 % protection, but common sense will also benefit your safety when working with chainsaws.

Husqvarna’s oils continue to pass tough tests. When developing a good two-stroke oil it’s important to be sure that the oil lubricates well. Here at Husqvarna we have developed a unique testing method that makes it possible to measure the temperature of the crank pin bearing while the engine is running. When the oil runs at a high temperature it is a sign of bad lubrication. If the temperature reaches the yellow area, as seen in the diagram, the temperature is too high, the material of the bearing starts to become soft, and it’s just a matter of time until the bearing seizes. You can also see in the diagram the Husqvarna oil stays under that critical temperature. When using a Husqvarna oil you can be sure that your engine gets the lubrication needed.

Safety is always a priority for Husqvarna products. Safety is always a high priority when it comes to our products. But not just as a consideration during product development even our accessories and oils are put through the most rigorous tests to ensure they offer the best performance and safety.

Testing and fulfilling ISO, EN and ANSI standards is a natural step in the process of develop new Husqvarna accessories. International standards as well as our own internal demands, give you the satisfaction that you have chosen the best product for your job. To be sure that our products provide lasting quality, the components are continuously tested during the production process. Testing and the evaluation of materials as well as process parameters is also typical for Husqvarna product development. As an example, the material chosen for our grass blades gives an extremely good combination between high strength, hardness and durability.

cordura and Aramid.Cordura is a durable synthetic material used in clothing for tough jobs in tough conditions. Aramid is also used and is a class of heat-resistant and strong synthetic fibres. This is used in aerospace and military applications, for ballistic rated body armour fabric, and as an asbestos substitute. The synthetic fibre Aramid has a high strength-to-weight ratio, so the clothes are light and comfortable.

filing teChniques

A sharp chain is just as important as a powerful engine. For your chainsaw to operate effectively, safely and with precision it is vital to have a sharp chain. How often it needs to be sharpened depends of course on how frequently you use it. A good indication of the condition of your chain is the appearance of the wood chips. A sharp chain will produce fine even wood chips while a dull chain generates sawdust.

Filing equipment. You’ll need a round file, a flat file and a filing gauge to file a chain. Husqvarna has developed a unique combination gauge that includes a file gauge and a depth gauge setter in the same tool. Used together with the round file and flat files it ensures the correct filing angle. We also recommend that you use a vise to hold the bar, leaving both hands free for filing. File kits are available.

2. File the depth gauges.Place the depth gauge tool on the chain and use the flat file to file the depth gauge all the way down. If you file the depth gauge without a tool you risk filing them too far down. The chain will then produce too thick chips. This will increase vibration, poor precision and could increase the risk of kickback.

1. File the cutting teeth.Place the file gauge on the chain. You’ll see arrows which should be pointing in the same direction as the chain rotates. File using light and even pressure with gentle, pushing strokes parallel to the gauge.File down to get a fresh cutter edge. Try to get the same length of all cutters. File every other tooth from the right and every other tooth from the left. A good method is to file from one direction then turn the saw and continue working in the other direction.

Husqvarna Intensive cut.New upgraded design with 20 % better cutting performance and longer lifetime. To keep your chain trim you will need a round file and a file gauge to sharpen the cutters. With a correctly sharpened chain your work will be easier and safer.

We compare the number of strokes and the amount of material removed from the cutter with each stroke. By doing this we are able to ascertain that Husqvarna files remove more material with fewer strokes when compared to its main competitor.

A. Husqvarna round and flat files.Quality files which give you the right geometry of the cutter.

oils and lubriCants

Husqvarna oils optimised for superior performance. You can always trust in Husqvarna providing oils suitable for your working conditions and that they are optimised according to the development of our engines. Husqvarna’s approach is to use the perfect blend of synthetic and highly refined mineral oils. Together with specially developed additives it will give you perfect lubrication, seizure protection and a cleaner engine.

Husqvarna two-stroke oil, XP. This 2-stroke oil has been developed for tough, professional use with high loads and engine speed. Excellent for use with all Husqvarna products, especially for engines with a cylinder volume over 55 cm³. It has extremely good lubrication qualities on high load engine details like for instance the connecting rod bearing. Large reciprocating masses (piston and connecting rod) in combination with high speeds and high loads demands special lubricating qualities in an oil. The XP-oil also gives a cleaner engine and less coating on the piston and in the crankcase compared to competing oils. Husqvarna low Smoke oil.The formula used in Husqvarna Low Smoke oil gives a very good seizure protection, both against lean and carbon related piston seizures. Like the XP-oil it’s a mix of mineral and synthetic oils. The additive package is one of the best on the market. The oil gives low smoke emission, especially important when used in products often run in densely built-up areas. The Low smoke oil is best used for cylinder volume up to 55 cc.

Husqvarna two-stroke oil, HP. Husqvarna HP oil is developed to work well with low quality petrol. Carefully selected components with special additive gives a cleaner engine and less coating on the piston and cylinder walls, exhaust system and crankcase. engine oil comparison.Tests made with Husqvarna chainsaws show the differences between a reference oil and Husqvarna 2-stroke oils. Cylinder and piston comparison run under the same circumstances but with different engine oil. The cylinders were run on the same engine block. The test was done with a Husqvarna 346 XP under very heavy load in a specially developed laboratory method. The Husqvarna oils gives better protection against lean and carbon related piston seizures.

Husqvarna oils have been proven to leave less deposits on the pistons reducing damage at high temperatures.

Regular 2-stroke oils leave deposits on the pistons causing damage at high temperatures.
