Estimated $1.65 Billion in housing damages as a result of Hurricane Sandy

• Flooding was the major cause of damage to New York residential properties, in addition to business properties, hospitals, and City and State-owned infrastructure

• 8,511,251 customers lost power, including 2,097,933 in New York City alone

• 34,610 homes in New York City and on Long Island are still too damaged to have the power turned back on

• 13 Counties have been designated as disaster areas and are eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA): Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Putnam, Richmond, Rockland, Queens, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester

• 66% of the FEMA registrants for IHP HA have met FEMA’s eligibility requirements

• 59,050 homes have been approved for a total of $373,540,963.62 in HA

Available Aid for HomeownersPrivate Insurance:

• Home repair or replacement• Personal property loss, including cars• Additional living expenses (loss of use/ temporary housing) Note: Conventional Homeowner’s policies do not cover flood damage

Federal Aid:

• SBA Disaster Loans - Homeowners: up to $200,000 for home repairs or replacement; Homeowners and renters: up to $40,000 to replace personal property

• FEMA Individuals and Households Program (IHP) - provides financial help or direct services as follows:

• Housing Assistance (HA) (including Temporary Housing, Repair, Replacement, and Semi‐Permanent or Permanent Housing Construction)

• Other Needs Assistance (ONA) (including personal property and other items)• FEMA Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power (STEP) Program - emergency assistance to

homeowners for contractors to perform basic repairs so residents can return to and remain in their homes while long-term repairs are in progress

GOVERNOR CUOMO’S DISASTER HOMEOWNERSHIP REPAIR AND REBUILDING FUND

• $100 million in dedicated fund to assist eligible homeowners whose primary place of residence was significantly damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy

• Homeowners who have already qualified for FEMA housing assistance grants can now also obtain up to an additional $10,000 to fill unmet need for the repair or rebuilding of primary residences, only after private insurance and FEMA IHP assistance is exhausted

• Will be awarded as grants, not loans, and will NOT need to be repaid

• Open to homeowners in the five boroughs of New York City and the counties of Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester

• Renters and second-home owners are not eligible for assistance

Empire State Relief Fund

• Intended to help residents repair and return to homes damaged or destroyed in the wake of Hurricane Sandy

• 100% of donations to programs to be developed in conjunction with New York State

• Directed at costs associated with providing long-term housing and rebuilding homes

• A 501(c)(3) public charity -- all donations will be tax-deductible and does not retain an administrative fee
